In 2021, one section of the Ngong Hills, "Corner Baridi," was badly degraded. Restoring it required more than good intentions.​

Family Group Foundation invested KES 5 million to restore 17,000 square metres of that section. Since then, over 15,000 indigenous seedlings have been planted, with 70 acres now under active restoration.​

This is demonstrates the impact of sustained investment and collaborative partnerships in advancing restoration efforts, and with our new partnership with Kenya Forest Service, we're scaling that impact even further. ​

The Ngong Hills need roughly one million trees to recover from years of degradation and encroachment.

Family Group Foundation together with other partners have teamed up with the Kenya Forest Service through a three-year Framework for Collaboration, combining the Foundation's one-million-seedling nursery with KFS's technical expertise and institutional mandate.

Together, this partnership moves restoration beyond individual tree-planting into long-term, sustained recovery, for the forest, and the communities who depend on it.

Throwback to 2025 and the Fr. Herman Borg (OFM) Africa Peace Environmental Awards Summit, where the Family Group Foundation received the Community Impact Award, recognition for our reforestation work, climate awareness campaigns, and hands-on community mobilisation at sites like Kona Baridi.
