Congratulations Clive!

Last night at London Haven lodge, The Provincial Grand Master was delighted to be able to present Clive Deakin with a certificate to celebrate his 40 years in Freemasonry.

40 years service is in itself a tremendous achievement, but as those assembled last night heard, Clive has provided so much hard work, care and support to our organisation and its members during that 40 year span, that he truly is a superstar of Dorset Freemasonry. From very fast, and well deserved promotions, to being a key member of the Oration initiative when it was in its infancy, and being a guiding light in the early days of the Provincial quiz, plus so much more!

Clive was a Provincial Warden in 1999-2000, and at the end of that year he presented all of the Provincial Stewards with a gold tie pin, to mark and celebrate the year. The Provincial Grand Master was a Provincial Steward that year, and had bought the tie pin with him, and revealed it to be amongst his treasured possessions.

We heard a potted history of Clive’s career in the hospitality industry, as well as a snapshot of the amazing Masonic career he has enjoyed.

Many of the current active Provincial officers (the writer of this post included) will tell you how comforting and valuable the support and encouragement Clive gives you, is.

From everyone at Dorset Freemasonry, thank you for everything Clive!

London Haven lodge, meets on a Saturday night in Kinson and is a wonderful lodge for people with a busy working week.

“There is a Grand Science known as Magic, and every real Master is a Magician. Feared by the ignorant, and ridiculed by the “learned” the Divine Science and its Masters have, nevertheless, existed in all ages, and exist to-day. Masonry in its deeper meaning and recondite mysteries constitutes and possesses this Science, and all genuine Initiation consists in an orderly unfolding of the natural powers of the neophite, so that he shall become the very thing he desires to possess. In seeking Magic, he finally becomes the Majus. All genuine Initiation is, like evolution and regeneration, from within. Devoid of this inner meaning and power, all rituals are but foolish jargon, and all ceremonies an empty farce.

“Initiation and Regeneration are synonymous terms.
The ritual of Freemasonry is based on this natural law, and the ceremony of initiation illustrates, at every step, this principle, and if the result attained is a possession rather than a regeneration, in the great majority of cases, the principle remains none the less true. The mere inculcation of moral principles, or lessons in ethics, and their symbolic illustration and dramatic representation, are by no means in vain. These appeal to the conscience and moral sense in every man, and no man has ever been made worse by the Lessons of the Lodge. By these “rites and benefits,” the Freemason is, above all men, in our so-called Modern Civilization, the nearest to the Ancient Wisdom. He has possession of the territory in which lie concealed the Crown Jewels of Wisdom.

One night only: APGM fulfils his gavel promise

Jez Hyland promised that for just one ceremony during his time as Assistant Provincial Grand Master he’d take the gavel and lead a Round Table Lodge ceremony – and a passing for Darren Barnes was it.

As APGM he is offered the gavel at every ceremony, and normally hands it back, though this time he took it from WM Tim Miller. They’re seen above with Darren.

It was a landmark evening for stand-in Lodge Secretary Stephen Hill, who has been holding the fort for Chris Jones during his round-Britain walk. With Chris being back home before Christmas, he’ll be taking over the reins ahead of the Lodge’s next meeting in April.

Chris wasn’t forgotten. By the time the festive board was taking place he would have been in his tent south of Great Yarmouth, where he was sent picture of the brethren we’ve published below.

He also sprung a surprise of his own, since he send back a picture of him and Stewart Buckingham of Olive Union Lodge, who’d driven down in his motorhome. Said Chris: “I could have slept in the motorhome with him, but his shaggy dog would have set off my allergies, so I’m in the play park!”

Brothers All /G\
In the Lodge we meet the fellows,
Who, in other walks of life,
We would seldom ever contact,
And then perhaps in strife.
They are men of every leaning
Whom we good and honest call,
And the splendid thing about it
Is, that we are Brothers All.

They are men of every station;
Some are rich and some are poor;
But they all are full of friendship
And of service have a store.
We may differ in our methods,
But our objects we recall
And it binds us in a labor
And it makes us Brothers All.

They are men of truth and honor
Trusting always in the right;
Seeking always further light.
What a power for perfect justice!
How can failure e'er befall
Such a firmly founded body
For the Lodge makes Brothers All?
