Today, our Grade 7 learners got to turn a lesson on electric appliances into something they could actually see, touch and enjoy. ⚡🍌🍓

The focus was on the blender, and instead of stopping at the theory, the learners got hands-on. They explored how a blender works by blending fruits with different flavours and seeing what happens when they put their knowledge into practice.
There was plenty of curiosity, teamwork and, of course, excitement around tasting the different blends. 😄

Sometimes, the best part of a lesson is when the textbook gets put aside and the learners get to say, “Okay, let’s try it!” That’s exactly what happened today.

Celebrating Talent, Joy & Possibility! 🌟

Mathare Light Centre welcomed members of the Afristar Blue Vest volunteer team during the Dream Building Service Association Tournament, held in Mathare from 5–8 August 2026.
The tournament brought together children from DBSA-supported schools for four days of sport, talent and cultural activities.

Alongside football, learners took part in dance, singing, modelling, choir, poetry and rap, giving them an opportunity to showcase talents beyond the classroom.
During their visit to Mathare Light Centre, the Afristar team interacted with learners and met the school's football team, sharing a moment with the young players taking part in the tournament.

The tournament's activities provided a platform for children to compete, perform and support one another, while bringing schools and community partners together through sport and the arts.
Mathare Light Centre appreciates DBSA and Afristar for their involvement in creating opportunities for children in Mathare to participate in sport, express their talents and connect with the wider community.
