HELD Sister Foundation is a not for profit, Non-Governmental Organization whose conceptualization took place in 2013. The foundation was founded by Carolyne Ng’ang’a, a cancer survivor who having gone through the processes of treatment and post-treatment regimens, wanted to champion the fight against cancer by amplifying the need for prevention and for those already battling cancer, to make their
journey easier through various support mechanisms. The foundation was founded as direct response to insufficient support structures for cancer patients, especially those in rural and sub-urban regions in the country. HELD Sister Foundation stands as a trusted, reliable and dependable provider of information on cancer and reproductive health issues, psycho-social support to cancer patients and those affected by cancer and in some cases, the foundation offers direct in-kind assistance like sanitary towels to rural women and school girls. HELD Sister Foundation believes that prevention of cancer and early diagnosis are key to winning the fight against cancer. To this, the foundation runs EDET program that involves the team conducting medical camps for women and men in rural and sub-urban areas to get screening for cervical cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer. The referral and psycho social support programs ensure that those who are already sick have the right psychological support. This, combined with reproductive health campaigns, youth mentorship sessions and HELD Sister Foundation social enterprise;- AFYA Harvest programs are some of the processes that the foundation have already set in motion towards meeting its objectives.
