The initiative builds on existing programmes including PlayMatters, Ahlan Simsim, and Play to Learn, which have focused on supporting learning and development among children affected by conflict and displacement.

According to the organisations, the new programme will focus on integrating play-based early learning into national education, health, and early childhood development systems through teacher training, caregiver support, classroom learning practices, and psychosocial services.

The partnership comes amid continued concern from humanitarian organisations over limited global funding for early childhood development in crisis-affected countries despite research linking early learning support to long-term developmental and education outcomes for children.

For Patricia Njeri, founder of BIRTH AND BEYOND KENYA, that reality became the motivation behind building safe spaces and sustainable opportunities for vulnerable girls and young mothers in Ongata Rongai.

Ahead of the organisation’s fourth annual #“MilesforSkills” charity run, Birth &Beyond is highlighting the importance of vocational empowerment, mentorship, psychosocial support, and digital literacy in helping young mothers rebuild their futures.

The initiative reflects how grassroots organisations are increasingly combining community action with long-term empowerment strategies to create sustainable social impact.
