A climb to Africa’s highest peak is taking on a wider purpose.

This September, participants in the Northampton Saints Foundation and Legend Expeditions Kilimanjaro expedition will visit the Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage in Tanzania, bringing books, pens and sports equipment to support learning and play.

The Victoria Grandmother for Africa is currently running its 20th annual Cycle Tour, raising funds for African grandmothers who are caring for grandchildren and supporting families affected by HIV and AIDS.

Funds raised through the campaign support The Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, which works with community-led organisations across sub-Saharan Africa on education, food security, livelihoods, HIV prevention and treatment, and advocacy.

Digital tools are increasingly becoming an important part of how small businesses reach customers, manage finances and grow.

In Mathare, Jane Kanyiva is putting this into practice through her second-hand clothing business after participating in KICTANet ’s EmpowerHer programme.

She has learned how to use WhatsApp Business, Facebook Marketplace and TikTok to showcase products, alongside digital financial tools to better manage business transactions.

But Kanyiva’s ambition extends beyond her own enterprise. As a community leader supporting young mothers, she plans to share these skills with women in her community and hopes to reach far more than the 50 women initially expected.

Twenty entrepreneurs from across Africa are heading to Nairobi for the 2026 Africa's Business Heroes Semi-Final. 🌍

Selected from more than 24,000 applications across all 54 African countries, the finalists represent 12 countries and 11 sectors, including healthcare, agritech, manufacturing, climate technology, finance and education.

Five entrepreneurs from East Africa are among the Top 20, with Kenya contributing four finalists and Tanzania one.

The Semi-Final will take place on August 21–22, with 10 entrepreneurs advancing to the next stage.
