Today, the UKCS Leadership, led by Secretary General Lawrence Nyaguti, together with UKCS Advocate Madam Mona Okong'o, paid a courtesy visit to PS Shadrack Mwadime, State Department for Labour and Skills Development.

The dialogue focused on key issues affecting civil servants, including employee welfare, CBA frameworks, stagnation in job groups, fair treatment at workplaces, wages, and productivity.

The Union also emphasized the need to strengthen union membership and social dialogue to enable effective representation of workers. The PS welcomed the engagement and committed to continue collaboration with the Union and other stakeholders in addressing these concerns.

The meeting further proposed future consultative forums and conferences to explore practical solutions and improve the working environment for civil servants.

UKCS remains committed to championing the rights, welfare, and interests of all civil servants.

A significant milestone in strengthening labour relations has been achieved today, 2nd September 2026, as the County Government of Nakuru signed a Recognition Agreement with the Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS).

The agreement provides a formal framework for structured engagement between the County Government and the Union on matters affecting employees, including representation, consultation, employee welfare, working conditions, and constructive resolution of workplace concerns.

The Union delegation was led by Secretary-General Mr. Lawrence Nyaguti Ochieng, accompanied by National Chairman Mr. Geoffrey Kipyego Korir; Deputy National Treasurer Mr. Ambrose Kibet Kiboror; Rift Valley/South Rift Regional Representative Mrs. Leah Chepkemoi Rotich; and Nakuru Branch Secretary Mrs. Patricia Akinyi Oloo, together with other branch officials.

The County Government delegation was led by the County Secretary, alongside relevant county representatives.

Importantly, Nakuru County becomes the third county to enter into a Recognition Agreement with the Union of Kenya Civil Servants, following Kakamega and Trans Nzoia Counties.

The signing marks an important step towards institutionalizing dialogue, mutual respect, cooperation and good-faith engagement between the employer and employees.

As the parties move towards implementation, continued cooperation and regular consultations will be essential in addressing issues affecting county employees and maintaining harmonious industrial relations.

This is more than a signing โ€” it is a commitment to dialogue, partnership and a better working environment for the workforce of Nakuru County.
