Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) is a continental coalition of Civil Society Organizations whose goal is to mobilize and empower African civil society to ensure realization of environmental and climate justice for all people in Africa Pan African Climate Justice Alliance, A continental coalition of Civil Society Organizations in the African Continent has emerged as the most vibrant and

largest Civil Society network in climate change advocacy. The alliance brings together FBOs, CBOs, NGOs, INGOs and Government Institutions with a common goal of promoting and advocating for climate friendly and equity based development. PACJA aims at unifying and coordinating isolated civil society efforts on climate change advocacy in Africa, so as to ensure that pro-poor and people-centred response measures are put into consideration as governments in Africa seek to mainstream climate change into national development strategies. In the pursuit of its mandate, PACJA collaborates and encourages strategic alliances with international partners, national governments, regional governmental bodies as well as individuals sharing its aspirations, to ensure that the African voice is amplified in international climate change dialogue processes. Since it was founded in 2008, PACJA has gained recognition at African and international levels, and works closely with key stakeholders such as African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), UNEP Regional Office for Africa, UN Economic Commission for Africa and other UN agencies, regional economic integration bodies and national governments to enhance the continent's voice in international dialogue process, as well as driving climate-related policies in African. In the past year the alliance has began a collaboration with the World Bank in enhancing its work and this is verifys the recognition the alliance is receiving globally.

Our ED has just delivered his presentation on Pathways to Beneficiation and Regional Value chains in Critical Minerals.
Key take aways

1. Africa is rich in Minerals resources and poor in value capture. The real issue is positioning rather than geology
2. Global value chain entails 4 stages including; Extraction, processing, Manufacturing, trade of value products. Africa is stuck on extraction. We need to design strategies to enable us remain in the value chain longer
3. We need to make beneficiation_ which is an industrial strategy real_ This is about power, skill, trade ,policy and market access
4. You cannot process Minerals without energy, you cannot manufucture without logistics and you cannot compete without scale
5. Regional cooperation between countries in value chains development is key
6. Africa should not power the global energy transition and remain powerless in its benefits

PACJA Executive Director, Dr. Mithika Mwenda and the Head of Programs, Charles Mwangi held a meeting with H.E. Sultan Hajiyev, the Azerbaijan ambassador to Kenya at the Azerbaijan embassy in Nairobi, this morning.

The agenda of the meeting was to explore strategies of reinforcing collaboration between PACJA and the government of Azerbaijan, its people and the civil society fraternity.

He noted with gratitude, the instrumental role that PACJA in collaboration with Azerbaijan NGO forum played in mobilisation and convenorship of key sessions at COP29 as well as the significant role that PACJA is playing in formulation of the Global South NGOs network.

The ambassador also pointed out that the World Urban Forum, which will be hosted in Baku in May, this year provides yet another golden opportunity for PACJA to collaborate with the government and the people of Azerbaijan to make the forum memorable just like it was the case at COP29; PACJA will be represented at the Forum. On his part, Dr Mithika thanked the government of Azerbaijan for recognizing the important role PACJA plays as the voice of civil societies in Africa and beyond; he expressed PACJA’s commitment to continue working with the people of Azerbaijan on areas of common interest.
