Democracy is built on freedom, rights and the dignity of every personand on the power of citizens to meaningfully participate in the decisions that shape their lives and their future.

On this International Day of Democracy, the Cross Party Democracy Forum (CPDF) reaffirms its commitment to promoting ethical leadership, accountable governance, political inclusion and meaningful citizen participation.

We believe young people must not be treated merely as observers of democracy. They must be empowered to participate, lead, question, influence decisions and shape the societies they want to live in.

Because democracy is not something we simply inherit. It is a responsibility we must continuously build, protect and defend—together.

Democracy thrives when every voice matters. Every citizen counts. Every generation participates.

The CPDF Deputy Executive Director joined and led a stakeholder engagement session with youth leaders and political aspirants from Kakamega County, facilitated by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Kenya under the programme.

The session provided an important platform for engaging young people on leadership, governance and the need for meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes. Empowering young leaders to actively contribute to political and governance processes is essential in shaping a more inclusive and responsive democracy.
