Across the globe, young people aren't just waiting for the future—they are actively writing it. Today, on International Youth Day, we are deeply honored to celebrate the extraordinary journey of Awake Changemaker Nio Basil.

Through his inspiring grassroots group, Hebrew Brothers, Nio is proving that art can move mountains. Armed with nothing more than rhythm, rhyme, and an unshakeable love for their community, they are transforming poetry into a powerful megaphone for good governance and equality.

As the road toward the 2027 elections unfolds, voices like Nio’s remind us what is truly at stake. They are walking the difficult path of advocating for true equality and peaceful co-existence, while holding leaders firmly accountable to the people they serve.

In 2030, 1.3 billion young people will inherit this world, and whether we inherit progress or a crisis comes down to the choices made right now. At Awake, we are fast-tracking underserved communities' progress by empowering young people as changemakers who will tailor solutions to outmarch dramatically growing challenges.

For effective progress, we believe young people must be empowered as changemakers through our Peer Driven Change Model, a powerful framework for influencing grassroots changemaking that relies on youth-to-youth leadership, shared accountability, and organic community transformation. Through this approach, we have already reached thousands of young people across our networks, equipping them to lead local innovation in peacebuilding, climate action, and entrepreneurship. For true and lasting impact, young people must not just be included in the conversation, but trusted to lead it.

We announce our 1-year partnership with the Children's rights and Violence Prevention Fund (CRVPF) in a consortium with INUA K**E to implement the Adolescent Girls Power Program (AGPP).

Through this initiative, we are building safe spaces, providing life skills, financial literacy and vocational training to empower adolescent girls and young mothers in Baba Dogo to transform their lives and advocate for a future free from violence.

Our Chief Executive Officer Meshack Otieno attended the graduation ceremony organized by Stawisha Africa Initiative, celebrating 30 adolescent girls who completed vocational skills training in baking, tailoring, digital literacy, and beauty.
