Today, 5th June 2026, the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), in partnership with Aak-GROW/CropLife Kenya, the 4K CLUB, Egerton University, and other stakeholders, is hosting a Farmers' Field Day at Egerton University.

The event has brought together farmers, students, and 4K Club members for a practical learning experience focused on modern agricultural innovations, technologies, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs). Participants are exploring a range of solutions designed to enhance productivity, profitability, and sustainability in farming.

Among the technologies and practices being showcased are improved potato varieties, potato production GAPs, drone technology, mechanization solutions, spraying services, and the responsible use of pesticides.

The Field Day serves as an important platform for knowledge sharing, innovation adoption, and empowering farmers and youth with the skills needed to drive the transformation of Kenya’s agricultural sector.

WPC Webinar: Information Session and Q&A - 13th World Potato Congress.

With the July 1st early-bird registration deadline for the 13th World Potato Congress fast approaching, the World Potato Congress Inc. is pleased to be hosting, as part of our ongoing webinar series, a webinar to share planning for the 2026 World Potato Congress to be held in Naivasha, Kenya this October 26-30th. Join hosts Dinah Borus, Chris Gasperi and Dáire McCafferty who will present the plans and experiences for delegates attending the event.

The World Potato Congress is a biennial event which travels the globe, bringing the international potato community together for networking, information sharing and an up close look at the potato industry in the host country. On 29th May 2026, Dr. Dinah Borus represented the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) at the International Day of Potato (IDP) 2026 celebrations held in 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐮, 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐨.The event, hosted by FAO, brought together over 300 potato stakeholders from across the country and partner organizations, including government representatives, research institutions, development partners, farmer associations, and the private sector. It was held under the theme "𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘, 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒔 𝒇𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒉" highlighting the critical role of potatoes in food security, nutrition, and rural development.

During the celebrations, Dr. Dinah Borus, who also serves as International Advisor for Africa to the World Potato Congress Inc. and a member of the Local Organizing Committee for the upcoming WPC 2026 in Kenya, actively contributed to the discussions and knowledge sharing sessions.

In her presentation titled “𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒆𝒔 – 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝑨𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂,”she highlighted the significant untapped potential of the potato sector in Africa, noting that production could be doubled without increasing land under cultivation, with innovation and improved seed systems playing a central role.

She further showcased Kenya’s preparations to host the 13th World Potato Congress 2026 in Naivasha and extended an invitation to stakeholders from Lesotho and other partner countries to participate. Her remarks emphasized the importance of strong partnerships, value chain transformation, and the role of potatoes in advancing food security, nutrition, and rural livelihoods across the continent.

On 29th May 2026, the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), in partnership with the County Government of Meru, the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA), AGRA through KSPI Project and Kevian Kenya Ltd, together with stakeholders from across the potato value chain, came together to celebrate the 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫 & 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨 (𝐈𝐃𝐏) 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 under the theme, “𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒘, 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅𝒔 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒉.”

The event was held at 𝐊𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚, 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐮 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦 𝟐, 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐮 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲, Kenya, and brought together an estimated 1,000 participants. It highlighted the vital role of potatoes in enhancing food security, creating employment opportunities, improving incomes, and supporting sustainable livelihoods for millions of people. Through exhibitions and interactive engagements, farmers, researchers, policymakers, development partners, and private sector players showcased innovations, shared knowledge, and explored opportunities for collaboration, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the potato sector for greater economic growth and resilience.

The event was made possible through the support of the main sponsors Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) and Kevian Kenya Ltd. Special appreciation also goes to the Gold Sponsors aak-GROW and the International Potato Center (CIP), as well as the Bronze Sponsor Bayer, for their valuable contribution in making the celebration a success.
