𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐮 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲
On 5th August 2026, the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), in collaboration with the County Government of Nakuru, successfully hosted a Farmers' Field Day that brought together potato farmers, extension officers, agribusinesses, researchers, and development partners to promote improved potato production technologies and strengthen collaboration across the potato value chain.
The event provided participants with a valuable learning platform through guided visits to demonstration plots showcasing improved potato varieties and best production practices. Farmers received practical training on key agronomic aspects, including certified seed selection, soil fertility and crop nutrition, integrated pest and disease management, water management, and other sustainable farming practices aimed at increasing productivity and enhancing crop quality. The field day also created an opportunity for farmers to engage directly with technical experts, researchers, and agricultural input suppliers, facilitating knowledge exchange and improving access to innovative technologies, quality inputs, and advisory services.
The event attracted more than 440 farmers, reflecting the growing interest in knowledge-driven potato production. It was made possible through the support of a wide range of partners, including Molo, East Africa, Equity Bank Kenya, , Aviation, FIPS Africa - Small Farms, Big Futures, FreshCrop LimitedhCrop, , , IPM Potato Group Kenya ltd, , Fertilizers, Safi Organics Ltd, Africa Ltd, SunCulture, 2.0, and East Africa. Their active participation underscored a shared commitment to advancing sustainable potato production, promoting innovation, and improving the productivity, profitability, and livelihoods of potato farmers in Nakuru County.
