On 10 September 2026, NPCK participated in the launch of , an organic foliar fertilizer developed to support crop nutrition and productivity.

The event, organized by Agrimedic East Africa and held at KALRO Kabete Campus in Nairobi, provided an opportunity to learn more about the fertilizer and its potential application in potato production, including supporting nutrient uptake, healthy plant growth, crop development, and tuber yield and quality when used according to recommended practices.

As a key stakeholder in the potato value chain, NPCK also engaged with Agrimedic East Africa and other agricultural stakeholders on opportunities to promote appropriate fertilizer use and improved potato production practices.

The engagement highlighted the role of innovative crop nutrition solutions in supporting sustainable and productive potato farming.

On 9th September 2026 , NPCK, in collaboration with Aak-GROW/CropLife Kenya conducted a VBA training in Elburgon, focusing on the Viazi Soko digital platform and the safe use and handling of pest control products.

A total of 29 Village-Based Advisors (VBAs) participated in the training. Emphasis was placed on the importance of farmers accessing and using certified potato seed ordered through the Viazi Soko platform as a key component of quality seed systems and improved potato production.

The VBAs also gained knowledge on the safe handling, application, storage and disposal of pest control products, with emphasis on protecting farmers, consumers and the environment. The training further highlighted the importance of integrating Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as part of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for sustainable potato production.

Overall, the training provided an opportunity to strengthen the capacity of VBAs to effectively support farmers with access to quality seed, responsible pest management and improved production practices within the potato value chain.

On 5th September, the Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET) engaged with the Departmental Parliamentary Committee an Agriculture & Livestock during a public participation on Crops Law (Amendment Bill), 2026.

The Bill seeks to rationalize agricultural financing through the establishment of Kenya Agribusiness Development Corporation Limited (KADCO).

ASNET submitted a consolidated written and oral Memorandum presenting inputs and recommendations collected from its member organizations. FPEAK and NPCK, both ASNET members, represented the Network.

The objective was to provide a coordinated sector input on the proposed amendments, capture the perspectives and concerns of ASNET members, and advocate for provisions that support a favourable and enabling regulatory environment for agricultural value-chain actors.

Represented at the meeting included ASNET, FPEAK, NPCK, sugar sector industry players that included: Sugar Campaign for Change, Butali Sugarcane Farmers Association, Muhoroni Multipurpose Cooperative Union, Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers, The New Muhoroni Sugarcane Outgrowers Company Ltd, West Sugar Company Ltd, Kenya Sugar Manufacturers Association and Rift Valley Sugarcane Association Planters Association

Humphrey Mburu is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sereni Fries Limited, Kenyaโ€™s leading potato processing company specialising in fresh-cut and frozen potato products. The company supplies major food service and quick service restaurants (QSR) brands in Kenya. Sereni fries Ltd is actively expanding frozen potato adoption in the Kenyan market.

When our founder, Chris Gasperi, first started farming in Kenya, he saw a gap that broke his heart: less than 5% of national demand for certified seed potatoes was being met. Today (31st August) NPCK participated in @20, showcasing the impact generated through the Kenya Sustainable Potato Initiative (KSPI) and other past AGRA-supported projects.

The forum brought together farmers, governments, financiers and private-sector partners to celebrate 20 years of AGRA-Sustainably Growing Africaโ€™s Food Systems. work with African smallholder farmers, reflect on the progress made and share lessons learned.

Held under the theme โ€œWhen Farmers Prosper, Africa Prospers,โ€ the event highlighted the importance of partnerships and investments that empower smallholder farmers and strengthen Africaโ€™s agricultural sector.

NPCK, in collaboration with Solynta - true potato seeds, established four demonstration plots of RAC (True Potato Seed) in Mwangaza-Kipipiri, Murungaru, Memo and Forester in Kinangop on 29 August.

The exercise aims to showcase the new variety by Solynta; ๐—ฆ๐—ข๐—Ÿ๐—›๐—ฌ ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฏ, a hybrid true potato variety that is resistant to late blight, one of the major challenges affecting potato production in the region.

The variety offers several benefits to farmers, including reduced fungicide costs through its blight resistance, access to clean and disease-free starting material, and high and stable yields.

Farmers will be trained on the new technology throughout the crop growth stages, with further learning taking place during the field days.
