Shienu Cookerthon is a one day communal cooking competition built around the 5 elements - Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit - where food is the vehicle for generational knowledge exchange.

The event consists of 4 adult teams cooking and competing while Under 18 activities run in parallel sessions by age circles. Everyone converges at the communal table to share learnings, joy, Afrikan pride, and knowledge.

Honor us with your presence as a competitor, vendor, child/teen participant, just an observer or a supporter.

Bring one gift, leave with something you did not come with.

Mokimo isn't just a meal. It's a memory. 🥔🌿

The mash of potatoes, peas, and greens that showed up in every home, every gathering — the one dish nobody needed a recipe for, because it lived in someone's hands long before it lived on a plate.

That's the whole idea behind Shienu Cookerthon — a one-day communal cooking competition built around the 5 elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Spirit. Food as the vehicle. Memory as the real prize.

4 adult teams will cook and compete. Under-18s run their own age-circle sessions alongside. Then everyone — competitors, kids, vendors, elders, supporters — converges at the communal table to share what we learned, and what we're proud of.

Greetings, Child of Mama,

Some of our reactions didn't begin with us.

The fears we carry, the stress we normalize, and the resilience we rely on are often shaped by stories that stretch back generations. Science is increasingly exploring how trauma can influence our biology, while history reminds us of the collective experiences that have shaped our communities.

For many Afrikan people and members of the Afrikan diaspora, understanding ancestral and historical trauma isn't about assigning blame—it's about making sense of our experiences and recognizing that alongside inherited wounds, we've also inherited extraordinary strength, wisdom, and resilience.

Healing begins with awareness. When we understand what we carry, we can choose what we pass on.

Complete healing does not just involve the physical or the emotional, but also ancestral.

We must be made aware of what our ancestors went through, what we went through and look back to where we got it wrong, alchemise and restrategise.
