Digital Education Africa Network Kenya

Digital Education Africa Network Kenya Digital Education Africa Network (DEAN) is an NGO dedicated to transforming education in Kenya and East Africa through sustainable digital integration.

Unleashing Potential | est 2001 DEAN (www.dean.ngo) helps building the IT infrastructure of Africa. We offer sustainable solutions for the educational sector, the local business community and (development) organisations. We have gained experience in this since 2003. In our vision, support of the local middle classes is a valuable step towards the desired local development. That step should help the middle classes to become the motor of further growth.

Back in April, these teachers began their journey with TechQuest Level 1. This August, they returned for Level 2 building on what they had already learned and taking their skills further. Now, they leave with new knowledge in robotics, coding, automated systems integration and the practical application of technology within CBE, along with the confidence to take these skills back to their learners.

Level by level, the goal remains the same, to empower teachers to unlock more potential in their classrooms. Want to be part of the next cohort? Applications for the next CLASSworks TechQuest training are now open. Click the link in our bio or contact us directly for more information.

During the CLASSworks TechQuest Level 2 training, teachers worked in teams to apply their skills in robotics, coding and systems integration to develop fully automated systems responding to challenges they identified within their communities. From an automated gate to an automated hanging line, the projects were more than just technical builds. They were an opportunity to think critically, collaborate, design and explore how technology can be used to solve everyday problems.

This is the kind of learning needed in CBE, where learners don't just learn how systems work, but learn to identify problems, build solutions and create impact.

This past week, 13 teachers from 8 Nairobi schools completed the final stage of their TechQuest journey. They learned to integrate full systems for automation, explored game development using Scratch, practised interdisciplinary lesson planning and studied how to connect robotics to other subject areas. By the end of the training, they'd put it all into practice by identifying real community problems and designing automated systems to solve them. Watch the week unfold. πŸŽ₯

Many schools are still conflicted on where to start when it comes to bringing robotics into their classrooms, and that is exactly what TechQuest is addressing. From 11th to 14th August, 13 teachers from 8 schools across Nairobi came together in Nairobi for TechQuest Level 2. Over four days, they moved from systems integration to game development, from learner-centred teaching methods to interdisciplinary lesson planning building the skills to bring robotics into everyday learning.

Here's a look back at the week. πŸ“Έ

Lighthouse Grace Academy's three-year journey with DEAN started as a decision to bring technology into the classroom in a meaningful way. Since then, it's grown into a full partnership, with the teachers receiving capacity training and now students actively going through TechQuest simulations.

The results speak for themselves as Teachers are more confident with digital tools and students are getting hands-on exposure to coding and robotics. A school that's shifted from thinking about tech as a general idea is now living it day to day.

To every school head watching, this is what's possible with the right partner behind you. πŸŽ“Are you ready to build this kind of partnership for your school? Reach out to us and let's get started.

This July, we ran TechQuest Level 1 training for Kisumu teachers, a hands-on program designed to take teachers from complete beginners to confident coding and robotics educators. Working directly with Leaphy robots, the teachers learned programming fundamentals and picked up the tools they need to introduce these same lessons to their students. Many of them had never coded or worked with a robot before this training. Now, they're ready to lead their own classrooms through it. TechQuest Level 2 kicks off this November, continuing the journey these teachers started in Kisumu.

Applications for our April 2027 TechQuest training are now open. Reach out to us or find the link in our bio to apply.

Coding looked impossible... until it wasn't. πŸ’» Meet Bradley and Victoria, two students who recently sat through their first coding tutorial. They walk us through what it was like learning to program a Leaphy robot for the first time through trial and error, the "aha" moments and honestly, how much fun it turned out to be. What started as intimidating became one of the most exciting parts of their week.

This is what's possible when students get hands on exposure early. It's not just about robots and code, it's about planting the idea that they can build, create and
problem solve with technology. For parents and school heads watching, this is the impact in real time.

Want your students to have this same spark? Reach out to us and let's bring TechQuest to your school.

Robots, code and a room full of teachers determined to figure it out. 🧩 Last week, DEAN ran a TechQuest training in Kisumu designed to equip teachers with the skills and confidence in coding and robotics. Using Leaphy robots and tablets, teachers worked through the same lessons they'll soon be leading, from basic programming logic to hands-on robot builds. It wasn't always easy. For many, this was their first real encounter with robotics. But by the end, teachers who started the week unsure were leaving with the know-how to bring these lessons home to their students.

Swipe to see the training in action. πŸ“Έ

TechQuest Simulation is back at Lighthouse Grace Academy this time for round two, with students diving deeper into robotics and coding using the Leafy robot and tablets. It gives students early exposure to skills that are quickly becoming essential from problem solving, logic and comfort with technology, all while making it genuinely fun to learn.

Ready to bring TechQuest to your school? Reach out to us and let's get started.

Meet Leaphy πŸ€– This little robot is changing how kids at Lighthouse Grace Academy think about the future. Our TechQuest team ran a Robotics simulation where most of the students got hands on with robotics and coding for the very first time. The world is moving toward AI, robotics and code, but so many classrooms lack the tools or exposure to prepare students for it. Kids who could be building the future are instead starting years behind, through no fault of their own.

That's where TechQuest comes in. We bring the robots, the curriculum and the hands on simulations that give students their first real taste of tech skills that open doors to careers most of them haven't even imagined yet.

Reach out to us and let's bring TechQuest to your school.
