As people flee violence in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, more than 80,000 refugees have arrived in Burundi.

Families are arriving with very little. Resources are already stretched. Needs are growing by the day.

This is a race against time.

Your support can help UNHCR provide life-saving assistance.

Please donate.

🚨Emergency in eastern DR Congo 🚨

Violence in South Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, has escalated sharply since 1 December, triggering the largest displacement seen in the region since early 2025.

Tens of thousands of refugees have already crossed into Burundi, many arriving by lake in fragile boats after fleeing with nothing. Among the new arrivals are women at risk, unaccompanied and separated children, and people with urgent medical and shelter needs.

We are working to scale up protection, expand reception facilities and deliver life-saving assistance, but urgent support is needed as arrivals continue.

💧 Water means survival.

In Malawi, years of drought left Rwandan refugee Nkurikiyimana’s crops failing.

Now, he can water his cabbages year-round and feed his family.

Refugees are among the hardest hit by drought.

Support long-lasting solutions.

Extreme weather can wreak unbelievable havoc.
