ILE is a program that started in 2007 as an initiative to put a smile on child’s life. This was done through hosting (Ambiyo) birthday parties in the slums of Kibera with between 100-200 resident children. The children were provided with snacks and an opportunity to play, dance, sing, make merry and taught about the love of Christ. The program then ventured into having vocational bible study where
children of different ages from the slums of Kibera gathered for three days sessions of being taught the word of God. The children are divided into various classes based on their ages where content is customized to suit their level of understanding. The program also has ‘career expositions’ an annual package where the children are given opportunity to interact with individuals from different career including; pilots doctors, teachers, musicians, lawyers, media personalities, hairdressers, pastors and many others to expose them to various career opportunities available and also inculcate the discipline of hard work at a tender age as well as the realization and development of their young passions and talents. The program also has book camps where we identify areas of need and visit various places with various children books; encourage a reading culture among the children, teach fun ways of reading and learning as well as donate story books for use by the children.
