Last week , Walusungu Mtonga (Immediate past ISR) and Bonventure Machuka (Immediate past ASR) attended the Mine Action Fellows Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, at the UN Headquarters, alongside the 22nd Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty, thanks to the invitation from Mines Action Canada and the generous support of the governments of Switzerland, Canada, and Ireland.

During the forum, they gained valuable leadership skills in humanitarian disarmament and engaged directly with diplomats. They also took part in a side event on “Youth leadership in the Mine Ban Treaty”

They also took some time to visit the IPPNW Geneva Liaison Office and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) HQ where they discussed various advocacy strategies for the upcoming year.

We commend the great work the 2 in raising African voices in disarmament, peace and health.

Amplify African Youth Voices at IPPNW World Congress in Nagasaki, 80 Years After the Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The Association of Physicians and Medical Workers for Social Responsibility (APMS, IPPNW Kenya) needs your support to send a delegation of Kenyan medical students and young doctors to IPPNW’s 24th World Congress in Nagasaki, Japan, marking the 80th anniversaries of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings.

APSM is a dynamic, youth-led organization. In 2023, we proudly hosted the last IPPNW World Congress in Mombasa, bringing together global health professionals to stand united against the most acute threats to our life; nuclear war and the climate crisis. We have remained active since. Find out more here: AMPS(IPPNW) Kenya.

As young African health professionals, our voices matter now more than ever. Africa is already suffering the devastating effects of climate change and uranium exploitation, and we know that our nuclear weapons free continent will be disproportionately harmed in any future nuclear conflict.

This Congress is a pivotal moment to ensure that young African activists remain present, engaged, and heard on the world stage. We are committed to a safer, nuclear-free world. We need your help to get there.

Please donate and share our campaign. Your support will help sustain the momentum of young doctors advocating for peace, health, and global justice. All donations will support delegate travel to the Nagasaki Congress”

Please share widely.
