๐ŸŒ June 5 is World Environment Day, the peak moment for global climate action. This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œNow for Climate,โ€ reminds us that nature is in emergency mode and every action counts.

Vi Agroforestry is part of the solution. We plant trees, restore degraded lands, and work with communities to fight poverty and climate change. ๐ŸŒฑ

Together, we can protect our planet and secure a sustainable future.

๐ŸŒ June 5th is World Environment Day, the peak of global celebrations for climate action. Vi Agroforestry Tanzania was honored to host Eng. Hamad Yussuf Masauni, Minister of State (Union & Environment), who praised our work in tackling poverty and climate change.

This yearโ€™s theme reminds us that nature is in emergency mode โ€” and every action counts. From tree planting in Bahi District to climate-smart farming, we are working with communities to restore ecosystems and protect our shared future.

What does climate action actually look like?

In Dodoma, Tanzania, Vi Agroforestry joined partners TABIO, CHAMWILEE and COUNSENUTH during World Environment Day activities (1โ€“5 June) under:

Dira 2050: Tuwajibike Kukijanisha Tanzania.

We shared climate solutions and took part in tree planting in Bahi District together with local communities. In Bahi District, we participated in tree-planting activities aimed at restoring degraded landscapes in selected schools and public places.

โ€œWe are using resources as if we had two planets. There can be no โ€˜plan Bโ€™ because there is no planet B.โ€ โ€” Ban Ki-moon

This is not something far away. It is happening here, with communities, on the ground.

So the question is: What are YOU doing for the environment?

This week we are in Tarime and Butiama Districts, Mara Region, Tanzania with ASILI B CC Partners together with IDS, MVIWANYA, and BUFADESO for field monitoring activities. ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿฅ• ๐ŸŒณ We visited Bubera, Muriba, Ganyange, Ntagacha and Kiterere Wards, engaging with farmers and local leaders to follow up on implementation progress at farm level.

๐Ÿ’ฌ The discussions and observations focused on agroforestry activities such as tree planting and seedling survival, alongside nutrition-sensitive agriculture and clean cooking solutions being adopted at household level.

๐Ÿ“ These visits also provided an opportunity to compare field realities with reported progress from implementation reports.

Today is World Biodiversity Day.

Across East Africa, farmers working with Vi Agroforestry are restoring biodiversity by integrating trees, crops, and livestock on their farms.

Our studies show that agroforestry creates thriving environments for plants, animals, and insects while strengthening food systems and livelihoods.

This is what biodiversity looks like in practice. Healthier ecosystems, more resilient communities, and a sustainable future for all.
Where trees grow, people grow.

From 18โ€“20 May in Musoma, the Tanzania Country Office convened partners for a training on ideation and storytelling techniques aimed at strengthening project preparedness and improving communication of community impact.

Partners discussed the changing donor environment, explored how to prepare idea banks ahead of funding opportunities, and strengthened skills on how to better document and communicate the impact their work is making in communities.

The session also created space for learning and exchange among partners working across different development areas.

From training room to field practice in Western Kenya
This week, our partners have been sharpening their skills through trainings on PMERL, Gender and ECCR.

Today, the focus shifted to the field, where participants put learning into action through:

โœ… Soil nutrient management
โœ… Soil and water conservation
โœ… Gradient calculations and contour establishment
โœ… Construction of half moons and terraces
These practical skills are helping strengthen sustainable farming practices and climate resilience for smallholder farmers across the region.

For three days in Nairobi, the PMERL Technical Working Group came together to strengthen how we track progress, learn from our work, and improve impact.

From refining outcomeโ€‘level indicators to developing practical dataโ€‘collection tools and aligning quarterly reporting with partner workplans, the discussions focused on one goal: making data more useful for programmes, managers, partners, and stakeholders.
Because better data leads to better decisions โ€“ and better decisions lead to lasting impact.

The National Agroforestry Advisory Committee (NAAC), coordinated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, met on 29โ€“30 April in Dodoma at Vizano Hotel to review progress and provide strategic guidance on the implementation of the National Agroforestry Strategy (NAS).

The Committee plays a key role in linking field experience with national planning, ensuring that implementation reflects what is happening on the ground.

This was reinforced by a field visit to Bahi District, where farmers are actively adopting agroforestry practices to restore land, adapt to climate change, and improve livelihoods.

These insights continue to shape practical, coordinated efforts to scale agroforestry across the country.
