On 10 September 2026, we will join partners and young people to mark World Su***de Prevention Day at Green Park Terminus, Nairobi hosted by Nairobi City County Government, to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote conversations that can strengthen community support.
Su***de remains a major public health concern globally, with more than 720,000 people dying by su***de each year. It is also the leading cause of death among people aged 15–29, highlighting the importance of investing in prevention and youth mental health.
Youth-led and community-based organizations have an important role to play by creating spaces where young people can connect, access mental health information, seek support, and participate in solutions. This has been central to Nzumari Community Initiative’s work over the years through our youth mental health literacy, safe spaces, psychosocial support, peer engagement, and community-based advocacy.
Together, we can change the narrative, strengthen supportive communities, and ensure that young people are not left to navigate difficult moments alone.
