TEDxKibera started in 2009 after TED opened their doors outside for other local communities to have the experience of a TED like event thus this events were branded TEDx where X stands for Independently organized TED event.TED gives the general guidelines. In 2010,After seeing the interest in the slum of Kibera and an initiative that was launched in Kibera where the locals were being empowered t
o host their own events.TED was mesmerized by the passion of organizers and attendees,And because of this initiative TEDxActivator was modeled.Where locals are trained to host their own TEDx events.Under TEDxActivator program we have:TEDxKibera,TEDxKaranja,TEDxSilanga,TEDxKangemi,TEDxMathare,TEDxWendani,TEDxBabNdogo and TEDxKorogocho. http://www.ted.com/pages/tedx_activators
