▫️The World Council of Churches through its programme on Overcoming Racism, Xenophobia, and Related Discrimination, will convene on 26 May a global conversation shining a critical light on how colonial ideology continues to shape today’s economic systems through international investor treaties, especially the Investor-State Dispute Settlement system.

▪️ Titled “Enslaving Treaties – The Persistence of Colonial Ideology and Practice and the Quest for Sustainable Decolonization including Litigation,” the webinar will seek to expose how legal and financial frameworks established during and after colonial rule continue to constrain the sovereignty of nations in the Global South—often at the expense of human dignity, environmental protection, and intergenerational justice.

📢 Zambia endorses the Anti-Illicit Financial Flows (Anti-IFFs) Policy Tracker, marking a major milestone in advancing Africa-led efforts to combat illicit financial flows.

Convened by TJNA in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), and the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), the assessment brought together key stakeholders to strengthen policy frameworks, institutional coordination, and national systems for addressing illicit financial flows.

As Africa continues to lose billions annually through illicit financial flows, strengthening domestic resource mobilisation and safeguarding resources for sustainable development remains more critical than ever.

On this Africa Day 2026, we call for economic justice to ensure sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems.

📢 Fifth blog is live!

African countries are continuously losing taxing rights over cross-border services due to restrictive tax treaty provisions. As digitalisation and globalisation reshape the global economy, how can Africa defend source taxation rights and ensure fairer allocation of taxing powers?

As debates on international tax cooperation continue under the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation (UNFCITC), critical questions remain around treaty reform, technical services taxation, and the future of source-based taxation for developing countries.

In this blog, Dr. Zandile Ndebele and Everlyn Kavenge Muendo unpack lessons from Kenya’s treaty practice, highlighting how outdated treaty rules continue to undermine Africa’s taxing rights over cross-border services and why reform is urgently needed.
