Over the past two days, practitioners from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Finland came together for the Outcome Harvesting Hybrid Workshop, held on 20โ€“21 August 2026 at Ibis Styles Nairobi Westlands.

The workshop provided a practical space to explore how Outcome Harvesting can help organisations identify, verify and analyse changes in behaviours, relationships, policies and practices resulting from their interventions, including outcomes that may not have been anticipated.

Through practical exercises, peer learning and experience sharing, participants strengthened their understanding of Outcome Harvesting. They explored how to better document, analyse, and communicate outcomes to improve programme learning and adaptive management.

The workshop was co-hosted by the SDGs Kenya Forum, UNA Finland, UNA Uganda, and UNA Tanzania, bringing together regional perspectives and experiences in monitoring, evaluation, and learning for sustainable development.

Today, we conducted the external evaluation of our two-year project on the integration of mental health into the primary health care system in Makadara Sub-County, Nairobi County.

The evaluation brought together civil society organisations, service users with lived experience of mental health conditions, and caregivers to assess the project's outcomes, document lessons learned, and identify what is needed to sustain the gains made beyond the project's lifecycle.

Beyond measuring results, this process was an opportunity to centre the voices of those closest to the intervention, capturing their perspectives on how mental health services can be strengthened within primary health care systems.

As the project draws to a close, these findings will inform future programming, strengthen accountability, and guide continued investment in community-based mental health care.

The workshop brought together Public Benefit Organizations from across the country to advance the establishment of a national federation envisioned under the Public Benefit Organizations (PBO) Act, 2013. This important process will strengthen self-regulation, promote accountability and ethical practice, and foster greater collaboration across the sector.

As an organization committed to advancing mental health and health rights, we recognize that stronger, more coordinated civil society organizations are better positioned to influence policy, improve service delivery, and create lasting impact for the communities they serve.

Heraf Kenya had the privilege of joining Tinada Youth Action Africa, Needs Basic Rights Kenya, and for Human Rights in a coalition meeting to establish the Alliance for Mental Health Learning and Innovation (AMHeLI).

Together, we:
โœ… Explored practical strategies to ensure the coalition's long-term sustainability.
โœ… Agreed on meaningful stakeholder engagement and shared responsibility.
โœ… Developed our collective vision, mission, and core values to guide the alliance.
โœ… Finalized our Terms of Agreement, placing policy advocacy, capacity strengthening, research, and learning at the heart of our collaboration.

This marks an exciting milestone and the beginning of a united coalition committed to advancing mental health advocacy, learning, and innovation across Kenya.

Together, we are strengthening partnerships, amplifying the voices of people with lived experience, and working to ensure mental health remains a national priority.

These engagements are invaluable in reinforcing transparency, fostering mutual learning, and ensuring that our work continues to respond to the health needs of the communities we serve.

We appreciate Comic Relief for their continued partnership and shared commitment to advancing equitable, people-centered healthcare and health rights in Kenya.

Members of the Mental Health Financing Advocacy Coalition came together to review progress, reflect on key achievements, strengthen collaboration, and identify priority actions for advancing sustainable financing for mental health in Kenya. By working collectively, we continue to champion evidence-informed advocacy that places mental health at the center of health financing and policy decisions.

We are building momentum towards equitable, accessible, and adequately financed mental health services for all.

Meaningful public participation goes beyond submitting memoranda,it requires continuous dialogue, accountability, and collaboration.

Heraf Kenya convened a Feedback and Dialogue Forum on Citizens' Budget Proposals for Mental Health Financing, bringing together Nairobi County budget decision-makers, County Assembly representatives, civil society organizations, and persons with lived experience to reflect on the county budgeting process and strengthen future mental health advocacy.

The forum created an opportunity to discuss how citizen proposals are reviewed and prioritized, identify gaps in previous budget submissions, and explore practical strategies for increasing investment in accessible, quality mental health services.

By strengthening engagement between citizens and decision-makers, we move closer to a health system where mental health is adequately prioritized in planning, budgeting, and service delivery.
