What will it take to turn Africa’s generosity into real funding power?

That’s the question we brought to Sankalp Africa 2026 and the conversation didn’t hold back.

Here’s what stood out:

Africa isn’t “high risk”, it’s misunderstood.
Too many investment frameworks weren’t built for our realities, and it shows.

Meanwhile, African enterprises are doing the work.Governance is improving. Systems are strengthening. Impact is being measured.

So where’s the disconnect?

Capital isn’t evolving fast enough.

The real opportunity is rethinking finance entirely. Think Blended finance, Catalytic capital, Locally-rooted funding models. Not as buzzwords but as real pathways to shift power.

Because the question is no longer: Are African founders ready? It’s: Is capital ready to meet them where they are?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝟭𝟬-𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲?

It started with 1,600+ applications from across the continent.

It looked like 435 social enterprises and nonprofits being onboarded and trained across Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.

And it culminated in 137 resilient, community-embedded changemakers graduating, ready to scale their impact and take the next step toward investment.

10 of these graduating enterprises also received grants to accelerate their work.

Ten months. Hundreds of founders. One growing ecosystem...the African Impact Academy!

We’re still reflecting on the conversations and powerful words shared at the Ashoka Ecosystem Leaders Dinner. This special evening was a collaboration between MoFund Africa, Ashoka PMI Africa Kenya Chapter and Christian Aid Kenya, bringing together a diverse group of ecosystem leaders from across Africa.

The evening brought a powerful message from Vincent Odhiambo, Regional Director of Ashoka East Africa, who shared that the summit preceding the dinner was the first of its kind, bringing together changemakers from every corner of the continent. He spoke of how the deepened connections and new partnerships formed from this gathering would go on to create even more impact.

Steve Njenga, CEO of MoFund Africa, built on this by sharing a powerful story on the realities of social entrepreneurship in Africa and reminding everyone of the power gathered in that room. Power he believes is enough to transform our continent.

There was also a moving pledge moment, led by Maureen Mbithi, PMI Kenya Chapter Board President, calling on all present to take responsibility for the future of our continent. Each person committed, in their own way, to do what they can with what they have.

The thought-provoking conversations, stories, and powerful words shared that night reminded us why we do the work we do.
