We work with the vulnerable and the marginalized members of the society in the poor urban settlements’ (slums) that include but not limited to children and youths on several issues that forms the basis of their social daily growth and development at a tender age until maturity that include but not limited to Narcotics. With Child centered approach, S.C.F focuses on different thematic areas, generated by the high rate of poverty in these slums, including but not limited to: Poor performance in school, girl child education, teenage marriages, school dropout, teenage pregnancy, illicit drugs and substance use, child rights, HIV/AIDS, street children, crime etc. The aim of the project, since inception has been to empower, sensitize and advocating different thematic concerns that oppresses them most ranging from drug and substance abuse (which is the main factor) HIV/AIDS, poverty alleviation and empowerment mainly the girl child, child rights, in Korogocho slum through increasing awareness and knowledge in the community, helping them network and make use of the various information we provide to them in the area. However, in the recent past the issue of drug/substance abuse, Child right, HIV/AIDS, Illiteracy and school dropout due to school fees has been on the rise in Nairobi and the programme has been working very hard on the two thematic areas towards helping the local community cope with HIV/AIDS and drug/substance abuse in their midst. In this re-focused framework, the Programme expanded its goals and objectives to embrace Child rights, HIV/AIDS, Education and drug/substance abuse with the aim of bringing information closer to children living in Korogocho slums and the nearby slums thus enhancing support and compassion to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS Illiteracy, and drug/substance abuse, not forgetting children who have been orphaned and are vulnerable children (O.V.C) including street children. Today, Slum Child Foundation Director George Ochieng - Baxtaly had the privilege of officiating a teachers’ training on the prevention of violence against children in schools within Korogocho slums. a project by Slum Child Foundation and PaaMoja Initiative

During the sessions, it became clear that drug and substance abuse remains a major contributing factor —impacting both children and even some teachers. This challenge reinforces the urgent need for a holistic approach that goes beyond discipline to tackle the root causes within our community.

As an organization, we are committed to creating safe, drug-free, and violence-free learning spaces where children can thrive. Together with teachers, parents, and the community, we believe a brighter future for Korogocho’s children is possible. 🌍💙

Yesterday, the Slum Child Foundation had the privilege of being at Kyaume Primary School, Tala – Kangundo, as part of supporting the Kesho Pia Initiative.

Together, we reached out to the needy and vulnerable members of our community, spreading hope and encouragement. Our mission remains clear — to empower, inspire, and protect young lives, keeping them off the hook of drugs and harmful behaviors while giving them the courage to dream of a brighter tomorrow.

Because every child deserves a chance at a better future!

Thanks to our team members who joined in to help our Director George Ochieng - Baxtaly

Excitement Written All Over Their Faces!
What a joy it was to witness the pure happiness and excitement in the faces of our Toto Club children after an unforgettable trip! From Giraffe Centre to Mamba Village, their laughter, curiosity, and smiles reminded us why we do what we do.

These moments mean everything—especially for children growing up in Korogocho. Thank you to everyone who helped make this experience a reality.

Together, we are creating lasting memories and shaping brighter futures.

What a Day to Remember!** 🌿🦒🌍

Early this morning, Slum Child Foundation had the incredible joy of taking our Toto Club kids on an unforgettable ecological trip to the Giraffe Center, Nairobi, Kenya, Mamba Village, Nairobi Kenya Wildlife Service Nature Trail. This Isn’t just a fun outing — it is a powerful learning experience that opened their minds to the beauty of nature, wildlife conservation, and the importance of protecting our environment.

For many of these children from Korogocho, this was their very first time outside the slum to see giraffes up close, walk through nature trails, and experience what they’ve only read or heard about in school. These moments may seem small, but to them, they are life-changing.

A heartfelt thank you to all who made this possible. You are helping us nurture a generation that not only dreams big but also learns to care deeply for the world around them. 💚🌱

Today, our Executive Director George Ochieng - Baxtaly had the honour of attending the Stakeholders Engagement and Dissemination Workshop for Jamaa ya Afya ya Mtoto (JAMO) — a groundbreaking study led by African Population and Health Research Center and the University of Maryland

This important research, conducted over nearly four years in Korogocho and Viwandani, focused on improving child health and well-being in our informal settlements.

As an organisation we are proud to represent the voice of children and youth from Korogocho — ensuring that their experiences, challenges, and hopes are heard and reflected in the work we do at Slum Child Foundation

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Development Nairobi City County Government, and other like-minded partners, all committed to evidence-based solutions for our communities.

A big thank you to and the University of Maryland for this valuable initiative. Let’s continue championing a healthier, safer, and more inclusive future for every child.

Building Resilience, One Child at a Time

Yesterrday, during our weekly engagement with the children of Korogocho, we were deeply moved by the powerful feedback they shared.

Many expressed how the lessons we've journeyed through together have helped them build inner strength, hope, and a new sense of direction. From learning how to handle peer pressure, deal with trauma, and set goals for the future — it's clear that resilience is growing right at the heart of our community.

These moments remind us why we do what we do. Thank you to every supporter, mentor, and volunteer walking this journey with us. 🙏🏾
