📹 Wrapping up the week of , the IGAD Hackathon 2026 brought together young developers from across the region for three days, tackling how to turn raw data into information people can understand, trust and act on before disaster strikes.

From prototypes to live demos, participants presented solutions to one of the region's most pressing challenges, closing the gap between information and timely action.

Winners will be announced at in Kigali, Rwanda 🇷🇼, next week.

The 74th Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum ( ) starts next week in , 🇷🇼, running 17–18 August 2026.

The forum brings together National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, climate experts, policymakers, development partners and sector stakeholders from across the region to release the October–December 2026 seasonal climate outlook and sectoral advisories, and to promote the use of climate information in decision-making and disaster preparedness across the Greater Horn of Africa.

Join our X Space, bringing together young leaders working on climate action, food security, and resilient communities across the region.

This conversation will look at how Artificial Intelligence is changing early warning systems and climate action. It will also explore the gaps that still exist in training journalists, students, young professionals, and communities to understand climate data.

Additionally, we'll examine why gender is such an important factor in how services are designed and delivered, even though it's often overlooked.

🤝 It was a pleasure to welcome Eric Perdison, World Food Programme Regional Director for Eastern Africa at our offices this morning.

Our discussions centered on the strong and growing relationship between IGAD/ICPAC and WFP, particularly our joint work to strengthen multi-hazard early warning systems, anticipatory action, and climate risk management across the Greater Horn of Africa. We took stock of progress on ongoing initiatives and explored new ways to support Member States with timely risk information and early action that protects lives, livelihoods and development gains before disasters escalate.

Strong partnerships are what turn early warnings into early action. We look forward to building on this momentum to scale impactful, locally led resilience solutions across the region.

Thank you, Eric, for the visit, for planting a tree with us, and for WFP's continued commitment to resilience in Eastern Africa.
