📣 ICPAC is currently conducting the Pre-GHACOF73 capacity building and training workshop in Nairobi, bringing together forecasters from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) across the Greater Horn of Africa.

👉🏾 Participants are being equipped with the skills and knowledge to independently apply ICPAC's objective seasonal forecasting procedures and produce national and regional climate outlooks for the JJAS 2026 rainfall season.

👉🏾This workshop is supported by the WISER PASS-EA project, funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), underscoring our shared commitment to strengthening climate services across East Africa.

🦗 Current Status: Recession. While the Desert Locust threat is low across the IGAD region, we cannot be complacent. The 8th Steering Committee in Naivasha is focused on maintaining high vigilance to prevent small-scale breeding from turning into a regional crisis.

What’s happening on the ground?
Member States: Strengthening national surveillance & restoring affected pastures. 🛰️ and partners Integrating climate data for sub-seasonal pest forecasting, managing cross-border surveys & pesticide readiness for rapid response.

With support from partners like , we are moving from "emergency mode" to Anticipatory Action. The goal of this meeting is to ensure the Regional Action Plan keeps us ahead of the curve, protecting livelihoods before swarms even form. 📈🌾
