CALL AFRICA KENYA is a Kenyan NGO registered in 2005, born as the local counterpart of the Italian NGO called L’Africa Chiama. We are based in Soweto Slum, Kahawa West (Kasarani District), where most of our beneficiaries come from.
This programme aims to help old aged women and men, orphans as well as single mothers living in the area of Marengeta, a few kilometers away from Soweto. We deliver food on a weekly basis to 150 vulnerable and needy families.
KARIBUNI WATOTO PRE-NURSERY – Soweto Slum - Nairobi
We aim to provide free and quality education for our young ones between the ages of 6 months and 4 years. We pay attention to their health and cleanliness by ensuring they are fed on a balanced diet and play in a safe and clean environment. Our activities are grouped into indoor and outdoor where children can learn through playful and educational activities and games as they prepare to join formal education.
PMTCT – Soweto – Nairobi
This project seeks to help prevent HIV transmission from the mother to her child during pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding and up to the 2nd year of the child. Over 25 mothers and their children are helped through food and medical assistance as well as psychological support with the help of a support group. Once they graduate from the program they receive a financial assistance to start an income generating activity to become economically independent.
PROGRAMME FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES – Soweto – Nairobi
This project helps to improve the motor skills of disadvantaged disabled children living in Soweto and sensitization and awareness on disability in the slum. 60 beneficiaries attend sessions of motor rehabilitation done in our Center with the help of two physiotherapists. We also give nutritional and medical support through a weekly food packet and payment of specific medical fees. Furthermore, educational support is provided to 15 children with disabilities who are in different special schools in Kenya. The parents also engage in the program, through weekly meetings at our Center in order to share the daily difficulties and to improve their knowledge about disability. They are also part of a self-help group to support each other.
SPECIAL CHILDREN PROGRAMME – Soweto – Nairobi
This program is targeted to street children and is based on three focal points: rehabilitation of street children living in the slum and its environs, reunification with their families and reintegration in school and in the community.
We conduct a weekly outreach service through home visits in the streets to identify the most needy cases and invite them to our drop-in Center, a place where they receive food, medical assistance and psychological support with the help of professional counselors and educators. Here they also engage in educational activities such as classroom lessons on basic literacy and life skills as well as games and sports. We assist them in their rehabilitation from drugs and alcohol and to go back to school. Plus, we try to identify their families and reunite them. Continuous psychological support is guaranteed to all of them until their full reintegration into their communities.
