This is World Environment Day Special!

As we celebrate World Environment Day, we're proud to look back on a remarkable journey that started nine years ago with the very first Kick & Conserve Tournament. What began as a simple idea has grown into a powerful platform for teaching young people about environmental stewardship, conservation, and the importance of protecting our planet.

This year, we're taking the excitement to the next level! 🎉 The 2026 Kick & Conserve Tournament will be held during the school holidays, bringing the action closer to communities and giving children the opportunity to learn, play, and engage while at home.

Inspired by the groundbreaking tournament that started it all nine years ago, this year's edition promises to be bigger, better, and more impactful than ever before. Through football and environmental education, we continue to empower the next generation to become champions for a greener future.

Protecting the environment starts with all of us. Playing for a purpose makes the difference.

Stay tuned for exciting updates, announcements, and tournament details. The countdown begins now!

Green-Kenya Safeguarding Commitment
Green-Kenya is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and adults involved in our organised activities. We prioritise the safety, dignity, and well-being of children and young people, defined as individuals under the age of 18, and remain dedicated to protecting them from all forms of harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Our Guiding Principles
1. Universal Protection
Every child has the right to protection, care, and a safe environment where they can learn, grow, and participate freely.

2. Vulnerability and Inclusion
We recognise that some children may face additional vulnerabilities or accessibility challenges. We are committed to understanding and responding effectively to their individual needs to ensure equal protection and participation.

3. Shared Responsibility
Safeguarding children is a collective responsibility shared by all staff, volunteers, partners, and stakeholders within our organisation.

Policy Aims
Protection - Providing children with appropriate safety, care, and support while they are in our care.

Empowerment - Equipping staff and volunteers with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to respond appropriately and effectively to safeguarding and protection concerns.

Accountability - Maintaining clear procedures and a transparent framework for reporting, handling, and responding to allegations, concerns, or disclosures responsibly and professionally.

Through sports and play, we are nurturing a generation that understands, protects, and cares for the environment.

Our Environmental Literacy program empowers young people to become environmental stewards within their own communities through holistic and engaging learning experiences.

By combining play, education, and action, children learn to identify environmental challenges, develop problem-solving skills, and create positive change for a greener future.

Play. Learn. Conserve.

Together, we are building responsible citizens and inspiring sustainable communities through sports.

The Women Up Program is creating safe spaces where girls and young women can learn, grow, lead, and believe in their potential. Through sports, mentorship, life skills, and education sessions, we are empowering the next generation to rise above challenges and become confident leaders in their communities.

It is a movement that encourages girls to use their voices, support one another, and pursue their dreams without limitations. Every session builds teamwork, self-confidence, resilience, and the courage to make positive choices both on and off the field.

We believe that when girls are empowered, communities become stronger. By combining sports with mentorship and personal development, Women Up continues to inspire young women to lead with confidence, break barriers, and create lasting change for themselves and future generations.

We use the power of sports and play to teach children life skills, leadership, teamwork, and sustainability through interactive school-based sessions.

For 7 months, children participate in engaging activities that promote learning and behavior change while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

Through Play We Teach:
SDG 3 – Good Health & Well-being
SDG 4 – Quality Education
SDG 5 – Gender Equality
SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth
SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities
SDG 13 – Climate Action
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

Our sessions help children:

- Build psychomotor skills
- Strengthen psychosocial well-being
- Improve confidence and teamwork
- Develop leadership and communication skills
- Learn in a safe, active, and inclusive environment
- Why It Matters

Through structured play and mentorship, we empower children to become active learners, responsible leaders, and changemakers in their communities.

Together, we can create lasting impact through sports.

The school holidays are here for three weeks, and we’ve brought together participants from all five of our programs to play as one team and learn from each other it’s one of the best feelings.

We believe that play is for everyone, both boys and girls, which is why we are actively recruiting more girls into the academy.

From Awareness to Action 🛡️⚽

In Part 2, hosted by Mercy Otieno ,David Mulo, the conversation goes beyond policies and promises into what real safeguarding looks like in practice.
What happens when a child raises a concern?
Are policies enough, or does culture matter more?

This episode unpacks accountability, leadership responsibility, and the systems required to truly protect children in sport. It challenges coaches, administrators, federations, and sport-for-development practitioners to reflect honestly: Are our environments genuinely safe or just compliant?
Safe sport is not built on good intentions alone.
It requires clear structures, trained leaders, courage to act, and a culture where children are heard and protected.

If you work with young people in sport as a coach, administrator, or parent this is essential viewing.
Because safeguarding is not a department.
It is a culture.

In this powerful conversation, part one, Green-Kenya founder, David Mulo, and Lilian Maina explore the real meaning of safeguarding in youth and community sport, moving beyond policies and paperwork to practical action, leadership responsibility, and cultural change.

Sport has the power to transform lives. But without safeguarding, it can also expose children and young athletes to harm.

This episode challenges coaches, sport-for-development practitioners, federations, and parents to rethink safety not as a policy requirement, but as a leadership commitment.

Because safe sport is not optional. It’s foundational.
