Food Security in Mathare and Korogocho Slums The project contributes to reduce poverty and social exclusion in the informal settlements of Nairobi. The specific objective is food security R2. R3.

The specific objective is to strengthen food security in Mathare and Korogocho. Expected Results are:

R1. Increased the capacity in the production of food: activities grouped under this expected result aim at increasing the skills and competences in agricultural production. The project also provides some assets for the practice of urban agriculture. Creation of new income generating activities: t

he project aims at increasing the income of the families so that they can buy quality food on the market. Activities under this expected result replicate some good practices experienced in the project catchment area, such us the production and marketing of handicrafts made through the processing of bamboo or materials from waste recycling. Population sensitized on good hygiene practices, healthy nutrition practices and reproductive health: child malnutrition in the most vulnerable families is not only linked to the availability of food, but it is also the result of lack of knowledge about proper nutrition and health practices. Activities grouped under this expected result aims at promoting good practices on nutrition, hygiene, reproductive health and childcare.
