EIK MEMBERS’ INPUT ON THE DRAFT NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT POLICY, 2026

Following the launch of the Draft National Environment Policy, 2026 on 1st October 2026 by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, through the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, the Environment Institute of Kenya invites its members and environmental professionals to review the Draft Policy and provide their professional input.

The Draft National Environment Policy, 2026 provides an important framework for strengthening environmental governance and addressing emerging environmental and climate-related challenges in Kenya. As environmental professionals, our collective expertise, experience, and perspectives are important in ensuring that the Policy is practical, inclusive, responsive, and reflective of the realities of environmental practice in Kenya.

The Institute therefore encourages members to actively participate in the public consultation process to ensure that the views, experiences, and professional interests of environmental practitioners are well represented in the review and finalization of the Policy.
The Institute encourages members to:

EIK informs all its members and environmental professionals that the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), in collaboration with the Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade), has fully automated the PIN Opting process for NEMA Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) permits on the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP).

The automated process will take effect from 28th September 2026, enabling importers to have their KRA PINs for NEMA EPR certificate applications opted in directly through the Single Window System, eliminating the need for manual intervention by NEMA officers.
The enhancement is expected to provide faster and more efficient EPR application processing, 24/7 service availability, improved user experience, and enhanced operational efficiency.
EIK encourages all relevant environmental professionals,
importers, clearing agents and other stakeholders to take note of this important update.
