FROM TRUST TO IMPACT: CHANGING THE WAY RESEARCH CONNECTS WITH COMMUNITIES 🔬🌍

Thursday’s engagement organized by the Clinical Research Society of Kenya (CRSK) brought together Patient Advocacy Groups and key stakeholders to have an honest conversation about Kenya’s clinical research ecosystem.

One message stood out strongly for us,

We cannot have meaningful clinical research without community trust.

Trust is built long before a patient signs a consent form.

It is built when communities are informed, when their concerns are heard, when research responds to their priorities, and when participants can see what their contribution ultimately achieves.

For rare diseases and NCDs, this is particularly important. Our communities often live with limited treatment options, unanswered questions and significant gaps in data.

This presents an opportunity.

Patient Advocacy Groups can become the bridge between research and the communities researchers seek to serve.

We can help researchers understand the lived realities of patients, identify unmet needs, communicate in language communities understand, and create lasting relationships that go beyond a single clinical trial.

The conversation has started.

Now we need to turn dialogue into partnership, partnership into action, and research into impact.

The question is no longer whether patients should be involved in research.
The question is: Are we ready to build research WITH our communities?

MAGIC Africa and Rare Disorders Kenya are ready to be part of that journey.

Honoured and grateful to represent our Organization for children living with endocrine conditions and their families at the RDI 2026 Annual Membership Meeting in Nairobi. We walked away with valuable insights, meaningful connections, and renewed inspiration to strengthen our advocacy for improved diagnosis, treatment, and quality care for children living with rare conditions. Thank you to Rare Diseases International and Rare Disorders Kenya for bringing the global rare disease community together. Together, we can amplify every child’s voice and create lasting change. 💙🌍

🌍 INTERNATIONAL NEONATAL SCREENING DAY
28 JUNE

👣💙

Every child in Africa deserves the chance to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential. Early screening saves lives, and greater awareness helps ensure that no child is left behind. Together, we can promote newborn screening and give every baby the healthiest possible start in life.

A small test today. A lifetime of possibilities tomorrow.

Screen Today. Protect Tomorrow.

Screen addiction is becoming a silent crisis among our children.

The narrative shared here reflects what many healthcare professionals are increasingly witnessing in clinics every day. Excessive screen time is affecting children’s attention, sleep, physical activity, social skills, learning, and emotional well-being.

Technology has its place, but it should never replace play, family interaction, outdoor activities, reading, and real-life experiences that are essential for healthy development.

As parents, caregivers, educators, and healthcare providers, we all have a role to play in creating healthy screen habits and protecting our children’s future.

This is a growing concern that deserves our attention. Please watch, reflect, and share widely.

“The movie Messi (2014) documentary is a reminder that a growth disorder is only one chapter in a person’s story, not the whole story. Diagnosed with Growth Hormone Deficiency as a child, Messi faced challenges that could have limited his future. Thanks to treatment, family support, and unwavering determination, he was able to overcome those obstacles and become one of the greatest footballers in history. His journey inspires families affected by growth disorders to seek early diagnosis, adhere to treatment, and never lose sight of their children’s dreams.”
