RPL TRAINING — DAY 5 | TRAINING CONCLUDES
Today, we brought the RPL Practitioner Level 2 Training Programme to a close.
The final day opened with Quality Assurance in RPL — understanding what quality assurance means in this context, the strategies and measures used to safeguard it, and the risks and challenges practitioners must watch for to keep the process credible.
Participants then explored Post-RPL Assessment Support Services the objectives, characteristics, and steps of a successful support programme that helps candidates after their assessment, including how such a programme is managed and sustained. This was followed by an introduction to the RPL Management Information System (RPL MIS): why it matters, its key features, the players involved, and the modules that keep RPL data organized and accessible.
The week's journey wrapped up with a post-training survey and an online quiz to consolidate learning, before a plenary session and closing remarks brought the five days to an end.
From defining RPL on Day 1 to mastering quality assurance and MIS on Day 5, our Don Bosco teachers and headteachers now leave this week equipped as certified RPL Practitioners — ready to help recognize the skills and experience of learners who gained them outside the traditional classroom.

RPL TRAINING — DAY 4 | ASSESSMENT IN ACTION
Day 4 brought the RPL Practitioner training to its most hands-on stage yet, conducting the actual assessment.
Participants learned how to carry out an RPL assessment, provide constructive feedback to candidates, conduct assessment verification, and facilitate the RPL appeal process where a candidate contests a result. This was reinforced through a lively roleplay exercise, giving our teachers and headteachers real practice in guiding a candidate through the assessment process from start to finish.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted to Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) — distinguishing between monitoring and evaluation, understanding their purpose, identifying key indicators, and exploring the tools and methods used to collect M&E data. This equips practitioners not just to assess, but to continuously track and improve the quality of RPL delivery at Don Bosco.

RPL TRAINING — DAY 3 | BUILDING THE ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK
Midweek, and our Don Bosco teachers and headteachers are now deep in the technical heart of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) planning for assessment.
Today's sessions guided participants through the core principles of assessment, the different types of assessment used in RPL, and the methods practitioners apply when evaluating a candidate's competencies. Participants went on to develop their own assessment plans, then design and validate RPL assessment tools, the very instruments that will be used to fairly and accurately measure the skills of applicants seeking certification.
The day closed with a look at how to prepare an applicant for assessment, schedule the process, and conduct a proper pre-assessment briefing, laying the groundwork for the practical assessments ahead.
Each session builds our facilitators' capacity to ensure RPL delivers credible, quality-assured certification for Kenya's skilled workforce.

RPL Training - Day 2 || Officially Opened
The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training for our Don Bosco trainers and principals continued today with an important milestone — the official opening of the training session.
We were honored to have Mr. Stanley Maindi, the director State Department of TVET; RPL Delivery Unit officially open the training, alongside Fr. George Tharanyil SDB, the provincial of AFE Salesian province.
Their presence and remarks reinforced the importance of RPL in recognizing and validating the skills, knowledge, and experience that professional have gained through years of practical work and learning outside traditional formal education pathways.
As the training progresses, our trainers and principals continue to deepen their understanding of the RPL framework and its role in creating accessible pathways to nationally recognized certification. This will go handy in creating inclusive work environment in our country and beyond.
They encouraged the trainers to be courageous in this frontier of RPL in order to help many technicians be officially recognized leading to decent employment, better remunerations and better life. In so doing we fulfill our motor for TVET; Quality of life and employability for all
The day was symbolically marked with planting of 2 trees by the guests that symbolizes how RPL will grow in Db centres in Kenya and whole of Africa.

RPL TRAINING KICKS OFF — Day 1

Today marks the beginning of an important journey for our Don Bosco teachers and headteachers as we dive into Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) training, This August–September 2026.
We're honored to have Mr. George Muga and Dr. Jane Njenga from the State Department of TVET RPL Delivery Unit facilitating this session, bringing invaluable expertise straight from the national framework driving RPL implementation across Kenya.
RPL is transforming how we recognize skills, knowledge, and experience gained outside the traditional classroom, validating years of practical expertise technicians carry leading to certification equal to formal pathways.

DBDON is proud to support the Institutionalizing Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) in TVET Institutions Programme, a transformative 5-day workshop designed to strengthen institutional capacity and promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable learning environments.
The programme brings together leaders, administrators, educators, and stakeholders to explore key areas including:
