ECOTOURISM KENYA Ecotourism Kenya is a membership organization that champions responsible tourism. Joining Ecotourism Kenya implies that one has undertaken to:

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to all individuals, groups, and organizations that promote sustainable tourism in Kenya. This includes students, professionals, academic institutions, tourism and conservation organizations, government departments, tour operators, travel agents, hoteliers, etc. There are 4 categories of membership:
• Corporate – Kshs. 15,000 a year
• Community-Based Organizations (CB

Os) – Kshs. 3,000 a year
• Individuals – Kshs. 3,000 a year
• Students – Kshs. 1,500 a year

WHAT OBLIGATIONS DO MEMBERS OF ECOTOURISM KENYA HAVE? All members of Ecotourism Kenya have a responsibility to protect and enhance the natural and cultural environment in the areas where they operate. be proactive and innovative in environmental programmes;
2. minimize waste and pollution of natural resources;
3. safely dispose of all wastes generated without injury to the environment;
4. participate in the management of the natural areas where one operates;
5. comply with relevant environmental legislation;
6. educate visitors about the natural areas and local cultures;
7. observe The Kenya Safari Code and The Coast Code;
8. actively participate in programs developed to promote sustainable tourism, including voluntary certification;
9. have clear environmental goals and develop programs to achieve these goals, and
10.develop effective linkages with local communities.

🐘This year’s commemoration comes amid renewed concern following the recent loss of elephants in the Amboseli ecosystem. While investigations continue to establish the cause, the incident is a stark reminder of the many threats facing wildlife, from habitat pressures and human activities to environmental contamination.

🐘The tragedy also reminds us that our ways of living, working, and developing are deeply interconnected with nature. The choices we make in agriculture, industry, land use, and resource extraction can have far-reaching consequences for ecosystems and wildlife. Exercising caution and embracing sustainable practices is essential if we are to safeguard the natural systems that sustain us all.

🍃Last week, tourism stakeholders convened at the Nairobi Serena Hotel for a consultative meeting organized by the Nairobi City County Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife. Representing Ecotourism Kenya, CEO Ms. Lynnet Kamonde joined industry leaders in exploring practical strategies to enhance Nairobi’s tourism competitiveness and strengthen its position as Africa’s premier destination.

🍃Among the priority areas identified were: developing a distinctive Nairobi destination brand, strengthening Nairobi’s nightlife offerings, developing a dedicated Tourist Information Centre, forming the Nairobi Tourism Association, developing a comprehensive inventory of Nairobi’s tourism products, etc.

The stakeholders consultation reaffirmed that Nairobi has exceptional tourism assets that distinguish it from competing destinations. The Leadership and Mentorship Program team had the privilege of joining Grade 3 learners, parents and teachers at Consolata School Nairobi for an interactive session on Environmental Conservation.

♻️As advocates for empowering the next generation of conservation champions, we were inspired by the learners' creativity in applying the 3Rs of waste management- , , and . They proudly showcased a variety of repurposed items, including reusable water bottles, pencil holders made from tissue paper rolls, and flower pots crafted from old containers, demonstrating that can begin with simple everyday actions.

🍃We also covered the role of parents in modelling environmentally conscious habits at home. Because children learn more from what we do than what we say. By carrying out sustainable practices in our daily lives, we can help nurture a generation that values and protects the .
