On Tuesday this week, NAYA Kenya and UNFPA Kenya convened a stakeholder validation meeting in Nairobi City to review and validate the Menstrual Health Fiscal and Regulatory Reform Report. The meeting brought together representatives from Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), the National Government Affirmative Action Fund - NGAAF, Polycom Girls, Real Relief, the Sanitation and Hygiene Fund, UNICEF Kenya, The National Gender and Equality Commission-Kenya, International Center for Research on Women, African Population and Health Research Center, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), and other key stakeholders committed to advancing menstrual equity in Kenya.

The discussions focused on strengthening proposed fiscal and regulatory reforms to improve the affordability and accessibility of menstrual health products.

Some of the key recommendations discussed included;

i. Prioritising government procurement from local manufacturers
ii. Increasing awareness of locally produced menstrual products
iii. Distributing both reusable and disposable menstrual products in schools
iv. Developing simplified KRA guidance on accessing available fiscal incentives.

Stakeholders also called for the prioritisation of certified menstrual health products from eligible local manufacturers in line with Kenya’s public procurement framework, while reflecting on whether additional reforms should be considered to further strengthen the sector.

The validation exercise marks a key step towards advancing policy solutions that support local manufacturing, reduce costs, and ensure that women and girls across Kenya have access to safe, affordable, and quality menstrual health products.

"It is time for child rights advocates, parents, community leaders, and every responsible member of society to speak with one voice: our young girls are students, not targets. Their school uniforms may be folded away during the holidays, but their rights remain fully protected by the Constitution and the laws of Kenya..."- Dancan Kemanga

As June comes to a close, we share what our colleague, Rita, shared in a recent paper for Men's Mental Health Awareness Month

Here's our mini-gallery for the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict with Waziri Beatrice Wadiaga of the County Government of Kisumu

This year's theme was 'From prevention to justice: Strengthening protection, accountability and survivor-centred recovery', a collective call to all stakeholders to center the survivor in interventions that seek to end all forms of sexual violence in conflict situations.
