: Peacebuilding in eastern DRC is increasingly shaped by mineral politics and global power dynamics.

At this year’s ALC–King’s Africa Debate, we critically examine the rise of an “extractive” model of peacemaking and its implications for conflict transformation, regional stability, and African agency in the Great Lakes region.

Through a high-level role-play simulation, African Leadership Centre fellows will assume the perspectives of key diplomatic, political, and civil society actors, unpacking the crisis from multiple vantage points and challenging dominant narratives.

The countdown is on!

In just 17 days, we will gather for the 2026 Global Edition of the African Public Square to engage a pressing question:
How should the resourcing of African agency be negotiated?

This conversation moves us beyond rhetoric and into the architecture of power. Who funds? Who decides? Who defines priorities? And what does African agency truly mean in a world of shifting alliances, green mineral races, sovereign wealth ambitions, and intensifying geopolitical courtships?

Join us on 2 March as policymakers, scholars, practitioners, and thought leaders come together to unpack this timely and consequential issue.
