STATEMENT: Amnesty International Kenya is gravely concerned by the reported abduction of Kenyan citizen Athorbey Al-Gaddhaffy-Dit in Nairobi at around 3:00 a.m. today.

Credible reports indicate he may be held at JKIA and at risk of unlawful deportation to South Sudan. This raises serious fears of an enforced disappearance and imminent irreparable harm.

We demand: his immediate whereabouts be disclosed, his safety guaranteed, full access to his family and lawyers, and an urgent, independent investigation.

If he is suspected of an offence, he must be brought before a court of law; not subjected to abduction, incommunicado detention, or removal from Kenyan jurisdiction.

Every hour counts. Authorities must act now. Read more: https://www.amnestykenya.org/amnesty-international-kenya-demands-immediate-disclosure-of-whereabouts-of-abducted-athorbey-al%e2%80%91gaddhaffy%e2%80%91dit/

On , Sharlene Muthuri and James Kimila examine how the Utumishi Girls Academy fire became a moment of public scrutiny. As CCTV footage spread across television and social media, urgent questions emerged about children’s privacy, consent, and the legal limits of surveillance in Kenya.

While safety may justify monitoring, the public broadcast of footage involving minors may point to a deeper violation.

JOINT STATEMENT: 9 people, including former Chief Justice David Maraga, were arrested today for peacefully defending Nairobi National Park.

We condemn the violent dispersal of environmental defenders, students, and human rights activists exercising their constitutional rights.

We demand the immediate release of those arrested and the protection of the rights to peaceful assembly, expression, and environmental justice. Read more: https://www.amnestykenya.org/joint-statement-condemning-the-arrest-of-peaceful-protesters-defending-nairobi-national-park/

This week, we are at the , where this year's theme is "Powering Resilience, Innovation, and Partnership through Data and Technology" -a gathering designed for collaboration, outcomes, and action.

As practitioners, researchers, industry players, and emerging talent collaborate and shape the future of data, our presence here is critical to ensuring that progress does not come at the expense of human rights.

Aligning innovation with accountability and promoting privacy, transparency, inclusion, and rights-based principles are essential to ensuring that technology remains rights-respecting. Let’s continue to build a data-driven future that protects people as much as it powers progress.

This week’s Houghton highlights a national crisis that demands urgency, accountability, and collective action.
From rising cases of missing children to the continued loss of women’s lives, the numbers are devastating and the stories even more so. This cannot be our normal.
