It was a pleasure catching up with Kruger Kos and (Phenny) Omondi from The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN) . Food Banking Kenya team greatly appreciated the opportunity to learn from their experiences and gain valuable insights that continue to strengthen our work in food recovery and food security.

Meredith’s expertise in building strategic partnerships across the global food system and Phenny’s leadership in agricultural recovery initiatives provide invaluable guidance as we grow and expand our impact. Their knowledge and support help us identify new opportunities to rescue more food, reduce waste, and reach more vulnerable communities.

We are grateful for the continued mentorship, collaboration, and encouragement from GFN. Partnerships like these demonstrate the power of working together to build stronger food systems and advance our shared goal of ensuring that good food reaches those who need it most.

With the continued rise in fuel prices, Food Banking Kenya (FBK) is adopting more efficient and localised food recovery and distribution models to meet its agriculture recovery targets while reducing operational costs.

One of the key approaches has been the direct distribution of recovered food to beneficiary agencies, schools, children’s homes, and community groups instead of storing food for long periods in warehouses before distribution. This model helps reduce handling and storage costs, minimise food loss, preserve freshness and nutritional value, and ensure food reaches vulnerable communities much faster.

Food Banking Kenya is also expanding its regional distribution centres and strengthening partnerships with local farmers, markets, retailers, and community organisations to bring food recovery services closer to the people who need them most.

The nutritious recovered food including fresh vegetables and fruits, is making a major difference among young school children and women by improving diet diversity, supporting healthy growth, boosting concentration and school performance, and helping families access balanced meals despite rising living costs.

By localising projects and promoting direct food distribution systems, Food Banking Kenya is building resilient communities, reducing food waste, and ensuring dignity through nutrition.

Today, as we mark Earth Day 2026, Food Banking Kenya (FBK) joins the world in reflecting on our shared responsibility to protect both people and the planet.

This year’s observance is a reminder that environmental sustainability and food security are deeply connected. Climate change, food loss, and unequal access to nutritious food continue to affect vulnerable families across our communities.

At Food Banking Kenya, we see every day how these challenges show up in real life:

Families struggling with access to affordable, nutritious food,
Post harvest losses reducing the food that reaches tables,
Increased pressure on natural resources affecting farming and livelihoods,
Urban and rural communities facing growing food insecurity

We believe urgent action is needed in strengthening sustainable food systems, reducing food waste, supporting smallholder farmers, and building stronger community based food recovery networks.

On this Earth Day, we renew our commitment to ensuring that good food does not go to waste while people go hungry. Together with our partners, volunteers, and supporters, we can build a more resilient and food secure Kenya.

Every action counts. Every rescued meal matters.

Good Friday Celebrations

Yesterday, UZA Point proudly partnered with Food Banking Kenya to give back to the residents of Githogoro during Good Friday. The UZA Point team, led by Abraham, highlighted the importance of supporting the needy within our communities and spreading hope through collective action.

The CEO of Food Banking Kenya, who hosted the event, expressed sincere appreciation to UZA Point and Elizaphan Foundation for their generous gesture. The event was successfully coordinated by Victor Magaki, alongside a dedicated team whose presence and support made the day impactful.

Together, we continue to make a difference.
