🦒🌱 Day 2 (28/07/2026) of the TTC tutors workshop at AFEW Kenya!

We started off by engaging with AFEW Kenya staff members: Christine Nyang'aya, Kelvin Otwori, Evelyne Ebeywa and Emmanuel Ngumbi who covered the organisation's programmes and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) journey since 2002, followed by an afternoon session with Dr. Evelyn Wemali on ESD in Kenya and the role of TTC tutors.

Then it was time to get hands-on. Guided by Mirriam Jebet, tutors learnt about responsible human-giraffe interaction, then went straight into the Centre's own sustainability projects to see conservation in action.

They explored:
💧 Water harvesting
🌳 Tree seedling nurseries
🥬 Vertical gardening
♻️ Composting
🪱 Vermiculture (worm composting!)
🗑️ Waste separation & management
🚰 Biological sewer water treatment

The idea behind the day's programme was simple: tutors who see and practice sustainability are far better placed to teach it .

🦒 Big week ahead at AFEW Kenya!

Starting tomorrow, we are hosting a 3-day Training of TTC tutors workshop for tutors drawn from Training Colleges across the country. In short, we are training the people who train the next generation of teachers.

The theme is "Empowering TTC tutors to Drive Education for Sustainable Development in Kenya." We endeavour to help tutors bring conservation and sustainability into everyday lessons.

Over the three days, tutors will visit the Giraffe Centre's own sustainability micro-projects and head out to Ololo Farm and Nairobi National Park for field-based learning.

AFEW Kenya has run the Training of Trainers programme since 2002. This workshop is part of that same mission: raising a generation that understands and protects Kenya's wildlife and habitats.

Enjoy last year's session's photos, and be on the lookout as we share daily moments from the workshop!
