Mr and Miss Autism Kenya Mr and Miss autism Kenya 🇰🇪 is an initiative to create autism awareness and promote talents.

We are young people making a difference through this pageant by creating autism awareness and intervention programs to assist children and adults living with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

💙 Sometimes, it starts with a parent saying: "Let's try.

Speaking at Kakamega 2026, Ready Aiders Foundation CEO Kenneth Apopa spoke about something that does not always get said directly the courage it takes for a parent to put their child forward for an experience like this.

For some families, the decision to join Mr & Miss Autism Kenya comes with real uncertainty. Will my child cope? What if it is too much? What will people think?

But Kenneth's message was clear. Participation itself is the point.

The friendships made in rehearsals.

The confidence that comes from standing on a stage.

The memory of being applauded.

The moment a child realises that a room full of people came to celebrate them.

The crown lasts a year.

What a child carries from that experience can last a lifetime.

To every parent who took that step in Kakamega, thank you for believing in your child enough to let them try. 💙

💙 There is a lot of work behind the stage.

For Vanessa Karabai, Director of Partnerships at Ready Aiders Foundation, Kakamega 2026 was not just an event to attend. It was an opportunity to talk about everything that happens when the event is over.

Vanessa shared about the programmes and projects.

Ready Aiders Foundation runs in support of persons with disabilities and their families' work that continues quietly between editions, between announcements, between the moments that make it onto social media.

Mr & Miss Autism Kenya creates visibility. And visibility matters.

But the partnerships Vanessa and the team build around that visibility with counties, with schools, with health services, with community organisations, those are where the lasting change lives.

The event is one day. The work is every day. 💙

💙 The people who see the small steps.

We were glad to have Mr Hoi Ogenga, Head Teacher of Mumias Autism School, with us at Kakamega 2026.

His presence on a day when teachers were being recognised felt particularly fitting because Mr Ogenga represents something that does not always get celebrated loudly enough.

The educators who work with children on the spectrum see progress that the rest of the world can miss entirely.

A child who sat through a full lesson for the first time. A student who made a friend.

A learner who communicated something they had never been able to express before.

These are not small things. They are everything.

To every teacher who keeps showing up for a learner that the system has not always made space for thank you.

This day was partly for you, too. 💙

Today we proudly celebrate our Autism Ambassador Kenya 🇰🇪 2025, Dr. Wamuyu Mwangi, as she graduates with a PhD in Mass Communication.

A title holder, a fierce caregiver to her beautiful twin daughters, both on the autism spectrum, and a courageous advocate for inclusion.

Her journey reminds us that motherhood, purpose, advocacy and personal dreams can rise together.

Today, we proudly celebrate our Autism Ambassador 2025 Dr Wamuyu Mwangi as she graduates with a PhD in Mass Communication.

She is a title holder-Autism Ambassador Kenya 🇰🇪 2025 ,a fierce caregiver to her her two beautiful twin daughters, both on the autism spectrum, and a courageous ambassador who continues to use her voice to create greater understanding and inclusion.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that motherhood, advocacy and personal dreams can exist together.

She continues to show that our circumstances do not have to define the heights we can reach.

From caring for her daughters to championing inclusion and now earning her doctorate, her story is one of courage, determination and purpose.

💙 Your voice does not stop at the ballot box.

Hon. Kevin Mahelo, MCA for Butali Chegulo Ward, brought a conversation to Kakamega 2026 that we think more disability spaces need to have.

He spoke about the importance of persons with disabilities engaging with their local political leaders, asking questions, following up on promises, and holding representatives accountable for the commitments made to their communities.

This matters because persons with disabilities are not just beneficiaries of programmes.

They are citizens. Voters. Community members with every right to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

The crown we place on a contestant's head is one kind of recognition.

But civic participation knowing your rights, using your voice, demanding accountability that is another form of power entirely.

Use yours. 💙

💙 Inclusion is also about knowing what you are entitled to.

Many families navigating disability in Kenya are doing so without full knowledge of what the government actually offers them.

At Kakamega 2026, Hon. Leonard Shimaka of the Kenya Revenue Authority brought a conversation that does not always make it into these spaces, tax exemption certificates for persons with disabilities.

It sounds technical. But for a family already stretched thin by therapy costs, equipment, transport, and daily care, knowing about and accessing a tax exemption can make a real difference.

This is what it looks like when awareness goes beyond the emotional and gets practical.

If you or someone you know has a disability and has not yet explored what KRA exemptions apply to them, this is your nudge to find out. 💙
