Educ-Afrik: Give Education a Chance

Educ-Afrik: Give Education a Chance Educ-Afrik is a project that supports Secondary Education in Kenya through a fundraising system all over the world. They are only called if they do great.

‘Upendo Rescue Center’ located in Nairobi has since 2002 (year of foundation) educated 300+ orphans and vulnerable children. Problem Statement:
Kenya education system offers free Primary Education through public schools:
- In slums there are a large number of orphans and underprivileged children. Their parents/guardians cannot afford school uniforms, books or transport costs, so the children are

not able to attend the public schools;
- Many of these children eat irregularly, don’t have enough clothes or access to healthcare;
- Poverty and lack education can lead to antisocial behavior;
- Uneducated children in slums are likely to remain unemployed, poor and have children early. The goal of Upendo Rescue Centre though is to provide free and unconditional Primary Education for the orphans and underprivileged children; provide lunch and clean water for the pupils; ensure basic health care (medical checkup, clothes); counsel the children so that they do not engage in antisocial behavior; educate pupils and their parents/guardians on health issues, such as HIV/AIDS, family planning and hygiene. When the children finish the Primary Education, they are called for an exam – Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) – to get into the Secondary School. Our main problem: The fees for the Secondary School are really high for the children and most of them can’t afford it. So, the only way to give the opportunity to these kids to continue their studies are finding sponsors for them, or collecting through this donation system the amount to pay the expenses. Being a sponsor or helping with this donation means giving a future to these children, giving the opportunity for them to get a great education and finding a decent job, instead of being stuck in the slums. In 2010 the first group of students took the Exams Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. Four students found sponsors for their Secondary School Fees and are experiencing a quality boarding school education, a true chance for a good career and changing lives in their community! WE ARE LOOKING FOR MORE SPONSORS OR PEOPLE INTERESTED IN DONATING ANY AMOUNT.
