During ASWA's International S*x Workersโ€™ Day webinar, Nicolette Naidoo of Wits RHI emphasized the importance of expanding HIV prevention options so that s*x workers can choose methods that fit their lives, needs, and realities.

โ€œChoice is not only about access to products; it is about empowering people to make informed decisions about their own health.โ€

As new prevention options become available across Africa, the call for equitable access and community-led advocacy has never been more important.

Join us for an important conversation on HIV Prevention Choice in an Era of New Technologies: Balancing Innovation and Community-Led Prevention.

As new prevention options continue to emerge, communities must remain at the center of decision-making, access, and implementation. Together, we'll explore how innovation can expand prevention choices while ensuring equity, rights, and meaningful community leadership. New HIV prevention tools such as long-acting PrEP options are increasing the range of prevention choices available globally, making community-informed approaches more important than ever.

Across Africa and the world, s*x workers continue to face criminalisation, discrimination, violence, arbitrary arrests, extortion, detention, deportation, and exclusion from justice systems meant to protect all people equally.

Criminalisation continues to deny s*x workers access to labour protections, healthcare, legal protection, and basic human dignity.

As we commemorate International S*x Workersโ€™ Day 2026, the African S*x Workers Alliance (ASWA) joins the global movement in reaffirming that access to justice is not a privilege, it is a fundamental human right.
