What does pride look like when s*x workers are still fighting criminalisation, violence, stigma and discrimination?

For S*x Worker Pride Day 2026, we reflect on how far our movement across Africa has come, what we are proud of, and why the fight for decriminalisation, safety, dignity and the right to make decisions about our own lives remains important.

"Today, on S*x Worker Pride, we celebrate who we are, the movement we have built and the strength we find in one another.

Across Africa, we organise, lead, speak for ourselves and continue to push for change.

Our pride also means demanding better: an end to violence, stigma and discrimination, and the full decriminalisation of s*x work.

We deserve to live and work safely, freely and with dignity.

This is our movement. This is our pride."
