What happens when feminists, youth leaders, and policymakers share one room with one shared goal? Today, we found out — and the answer was nothing short of extraordinary.

Our side event took place today and from the moment the first speaker took the floor, it was clear that this was not going to be just another panel discussion. This was a room full of people who came ready to challenge, push, and demand more from the systems that have for too long fallen short of their promises to women, girls, and young people across Africa.

Under our theme "Financing Care, Powering Equality — Feminist and Youth-Led Pathways for Africa's SDG Progress" — the conversation went deep. We moved beyond the familiar talking points and into the territory that actually matters: mapping practical, feminist, and youth-led pathways that do not merely celebrate SDG progress on paper but actively and measurably deliver it on the ground.

Every voice that filled that room carried weight: lived experience, technical expertise, and an unshakeable commitment to seeing Africa thrive. The insights shared today were too important to stay within those four walls. They belong in policy documents. In national budgets. In the communities across Africa that are waiting — and deserve — to feel the difference.

One of the most resonant moments came from Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, Director of Climate Parliament for West and Central Africa and former Member of Parliament from Ghana, who reminded the room of something fundamental:

"To turn policy into practice, we need the guardians of the law at the table. Parliamentarians are the bridge between the people's needs and the continent's progress."

Those words landed. Because they captured exactly what this side event was about — closing the gap between what is written and what is lived. Between what is promised and what is delivered. Between the continent's potential and its present reality. 🏛️💪

The insights from today will not stay in Addis Ababa. They will travel into boardrooms, into parliaments, into communities, carried by every person who was in that room and everyone who will read these words.

Because the race to 2030 demands nothing less. And Africa is ready to run it!

Today was one of those days that reminded us exactly why matters!

Right at the heart of Addis Ababa, the atmosphere at the Opening Ceremony was nothing short of electrifying.

This was not just another high-level meeting. This was a continent standing up, speaking out, and making it absolutely clear that the season of good intentions is over. Africa came to Addis Ababa with one agenda: results.

Supported by a powerful message from UN Secretary-General , leaders from across the continent delivered a charge that echoed throughout the room:
We know what is not working. The time has come to fix it.
Stop talking about the problems. Start scaling the solutions.
Move — urgently, boldly, and without hesitation — from diagnosis to delivery.

Because with only four years remaining to the 2030 deadline, the window for excuses has officially closed. ⏰ Africa is done waiting. Africa is done deliberating. Africa is ready to deliver. 🏁

And we did not stop at the Opening Ceremony. 👇
Our team went on to participate in a critical side event: Advancing Africa's Clean Energy Transition — Policy Reforms for Expanded Access and Decent Jobs for Women and Youth.

This session struck right at the heart of what inclusive sustainable development must look like in practice. Because the clean energy transition cannot be complete — it cannot even be called a transition — if it leaves women and young people behind.
The conversations were honest, evidence-based, and forward-looking — exploring the policy reforms needed to ensure that as Africa moves toward cleaner energy, it also moves toward greater equity. That the jobs created are decent, accessible, and deliberately designed to include women and youth at every level.

Because energy justice and gender justice are not separate conversations. They are the same conversation.

The race to 2030 is on! And today proved that Africa is not just participating in that race — Africa is running to win.

What a year it has been!

We are thrilled to announce that the SDGs Kenya Forum 2025 Annual Report is officially out — and trust us, this is one you will want to sit down and read. 📋

This report is not just a collection of numbers and updates. It is the story of a full year of showing up — with purpose, with partners, and with communities at the heart of everything we did. Every chapter reflects what becomes possible when people and organisations commit to something bigger than themselves.
And what a year it was for milestones! 🏁

One of the moments that defined 2025 for us was the launch of the campaign — unveiled at the Annual Multi-Stakeholders Conference. This was not just an announcement. It was a rallying cry. A bold and urgent reminder that 2030 is closer than we think, and that the time to accelerate action on the Sustainable Development Goals is right now. The campaign brought together partners, civil society organisations, government representatives, and communities — united by one shared sense of purpose and urgency.

From that landmark launch to engagements that spanned local communities all the way to global platforms — this report captures it all. The partnerships forged. The progress made. The lessons learned. And the foundation is being laid for what comes next.

This week, we are in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the 12th Session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD12), joining policymakers, development partners, civil society, and changemakers from across the continent to accelerate progress on the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063

Our participation goes beyond attendance. We are also proud to host a side event on 29th April 2026 titled:

Today’s sessions at the European Union to Kenya META Sub-Grantees Meeting focused on the key pillars that turn promising projects into lasting impact — because impact without visibility is a story that remains unheard.

We began the day with a strong focus on visibility and strategic communication, the engine that drives impact. Visibility ensures that stories are seen, voices are amplified, and the value of community-led change reaches wider audiences, stakeholders, and decision-makers. Through effective communication and strong documentation, partners are better equipped to highlight achievements, share lessons learned, and inspire broader action.

We also dedicated time to Safeguarding & PSEA, reaffirming our collective responsibility to create safe, respectful, and accountable spaces across all partnership activities. Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse is not optional — it is essential to protecting communities, preserving dignity, and ensuring that all implementation is guided by integrity, accountability, and zero tolerance for misconduct.

The conversation then shifted to another vital area: Advocacy & Policy Engagement.

Are civil society voices truly influencing the policies that matter most?

META subgrantees explored this important question by discussing how partners can strategically engage and influence national, regional, and global policy spaces. This included participation in international platforms and policy dialogues that strengthen civil society voices and promote meaningful youth inclusion.

We concluded the day by listening to inspiring and practical workplans from the META subgrantees — clear roadmaps driven by ambition, strategy, and commitment to delivering real change in communities across Kenya.

The planning is complete. The partnerships are stronger. The vision is clear.

Day 1 gave us the vision. Day 2 has given us the blueprint.

The momentum from yesterday carried strongly into today as the Delegation of the European Union to Kenya META Subgrantees engagement continued in full stride — deepening collaboration, sharpening alignment, and strengthening the partnerships that will drive implementation forward.

This morning’s sessions focused on a detailed exploration of the Sub-Granting Mechanism, a critical step in ensuring that all partners move into implementation with clarity, confidence, and a shared understanding of expectations. Together, we unpacked the grant structure, reviewed programme objectives, revisited partnership principles, and explored the funding framework in depth.

As discussions progressed, one thing became clear: when partners fully understand the framework they are working within, everything else becomes stronger. Trust grows. Coordination improves. And the collective commitment to delivering meaningful impact on the ground becomes even more tangible.

The afternoon brought fresh energy as partners took the floor to present their thematic priorities and planned community dialogues. With each presentation, new opportunities for collaboration, joint advocacy, and shared learning emerged across the room.

It was a powerful reminder that lasting impact is rarely created in isolation. It happens when organisations move beyond silos and choose solidarity — aligning their strengths, knowledge, and efforts to better serve communities across Kenya.

We concluded the day with an important reflection on common implementation challenges and navigating the EU financial and policy space. It was a practical and enriching session that reinforced the value of shared learning, accountability, and partnership.

As Day 2 comes to a close, the foundation is not only holding — it is growing stronger with every session, every conversation, and every connection made along the way.

Cast your mind back to last year October, when the EU-CSOs Forum brought a special moment: the official unveiling of the META subgrantees under the European Union in Kenya. That announcement set the stage. Today, we stepped fully onto it.

The inception meeting brought all partners into one room, and the energy said it all. This was not a formality. This was the official beginning of something bigger than any one organization in that room.

Every seat at the table was filled by an organization fuelled by purpose; driven not by what looks good on paper, but by a genuine desire to see real change in communities across Kenya. We took the time to hear from each partner; their story, what drives them, the problems they have dedicated themselves to solving, and the kind of future they are working towards.

But inspiration without a plan is just a feeling. So we got to work!

The sessions shifted to strategy, turning shared ambitions into concrete, coordinated action through focused planning on:

📌 Workplans and activity mapping
📌 Timelines and milestone setting
📌 Roles, responsibilities, and coordination frameworks
📌 Budget alignment and resource planning
📌 Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting structures

Because the kind of change these partners are committed to does not happen by accident. It is the result of deliberate choices, careful planning, strong coordination, and a shared refusal to settle for anything less than real, measurable results.

The foundation has been laid. And over these three days, we are not just building momentum, we are shaping the road ahead together.
