SIL Africa Area Training

SIL Africa Area Training I-DELTA is the Institute for the Development of Languages and Translation in Africa. I-DELTA provides face-to-face, intensive training for 8-weeks each year.

During the course, students complete three modules (courses) in one of the academic areas of Translation, Scripture Use, Linguistics, Literacy, Assessment or Anthropology.

We are pleased to announce that the next iDELTA cohort will be joining us in May 2024. The AC1 course of iDELTA will be running from the 6th of May to the 28th of June 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya. We will be offering courses in the Translation, Literacy, Survey , Media and Scripture Engagement tracks. Academic Course 2 (AC2) is nearly complete. Projects are turned in, exams scheduled and suitcases being dusted off and prepared for travel home. Much learning has taken place. Now is the time to start thinking about who to send to this excellent training course for 2024.

This week, the government of Uganda, our program's host country, announced tighter restrictions on travelers from certain countries classified as "high-risk", including mandatory institutional quarantine, and rigorous screening for all other international travelers. Locally, starting yesterday, 20 March 2020, the government imposed a ban on public gatherings: religious, academic, economic, political, and social alike at least for the next 32 days, to be reviewed depending on how the COVID-19 situation unfolds worldwide.
