What an inspiring day at Magadi Secondary! πŸŽ‰
On Friday, July 4th, the Youth Senate team held an impactful career and mentorship day. Hosted by our Youth Senator for Kajiado County, Elijah J. Tipango, who was joined by the Chief Engagement Officer, Gideon Toimasi, and fellow Youth Senators Millicent Naserian (Narok) and John Erisen (Samburu), alongside our partners who made it all possible.

Our mission was to empower students with the spirit of integrity-driven leadership, the pursuit of academic excellence, and the development of practical skills for a brighter tomorrow. We challenged them to become proactive solution-seekers, especially in critical areas like climate action, governance, and tech innovation.

Beyond the talks, we planted trees and distributed sanitary towels, emphasizing the importance of Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) education.

Together we are shaping a generation with a difference!

β€œWe echo the African Union’s 2025 theme: β€œYear of Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.” This isn't just symbolic. Historical injustices fuel today's systemic inequalities, from disproportionate climate vulnerability to the fight for adequate climate finance.

🌍 With over 600 million young people, Africa’s youth are the present! Decisions on climate finance today will either empower or let us down.”

Honoured to have our Director General πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ deliver the Youth Statement on behalf of Africa’s young people at the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance press conference at SB62 in Bonn Germany.

The Youth Senate was honored to join young people from across the continent for the African Youth Regional Policy Advocacy and Outreach Workshop by the African Youth Commission.

Over the course of the workshop, young people gained critical insights into regional and global climate governance and explored effective entry points for youth-led advocacy.

The sessions on strategic communications, policy advocacy, and storytelling were particularly impactful, equipping participants with practical tools to champion climate justice within their communities.

The workshop delved into African-led frameworks for climate action, emphasizing the importance of equity, reparations, and locally led adaptation strategies. Through the collaborative development of a Regional Youth Action Plan, participants aligned their goals with continental advocacy priorities and built momentum towards key convenings such as the Africa Climate Summit and COP30.

A key takeaway was the need to ensure the sustainability of youth movements and foster coalition building among CSOs, governments, and grassroots actors in shaping inclusive climate and environmental policies.

The workshop reaffirmed the role of young people as catalysts of change in the climate justice space. The African Youth Commission, in partnership with the Youth Senate Kenya, and all stakeholders under the African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) project, remain committed to youth empowerment and the amplification of their voices.

Our Story

After the promulgation ceremony in 2010, a small group of young people went through the 2010 Constitution and realized the great opportunities it posed for the youths in Kenya in regard to their growth and development needs. For the first time, young people could meaningfully participate and be involved in decision making and policy formulation on key matters that affect the youths at the individual, county and national level. Thus out of that small group, Youth Senate-Kenya (YSK) was born becoming the voice of the Kenyan Youth.

Youth Senate works to advocate for the Kenyan youth resulting in a new generation of informed, involved and empowered youth in Kenya. Founded in 2014, YSK is a youth-led non-partisan organization with a current membership of 47,000 young people, led by Youth Senators across the 47 counties in Kenya.

We believe that our generation will spearhead the change that Kenya and Africa as a whole, has been waiting for. We demonstrate that our generation has a distinct relevance in improving conditions, uplifting standards and bringing progress in Kenya. We are that generation. We are a Generation With A Difference!
