Building bridges for impact 🌍

We had the honor of hosting a delegation from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Embassy in Kenya, through our partnership with Independent Diplomat.

We shared the work we’re doing at YVC to support refugees through advocacy, education, and empowerment, and explored how stronger partnerships can help us scale our impact.

Grateful for the insights, especially on how to better position our work from a donor perspective. The future is collaborative 💫

Youth Voices Community (YVC) continues to leverage strong partnerships, and reconnecting with IRAP was a powerful reminder of why this work truly matters.

Behind every referral for family reunification is more than a case.
It’s a family navigating uncertainty.
A young person holding onto hope.
A community seeking safety and dignity.

Through this partnership, YVC has:
• Identified and referred vulnerable cases
• Built trust within refugee communities
• Strengthened access to critical information and support

But this is just the beginning.

We are shifting from individual cases → to systems-level impact.

We are asking:
How do we identify cases earlier?
How do we unlock sustainable funding through impact?
How do we respond to climate-induced displacement?

Because displacement is evolving, and so must we.

At YVC, we are stepping forward by strengthening systems, investing in learning, and building partnerships grounded in long-term vision.

The work continues. The impact grows. The responsibility is shared.

Our evaluation shows that pairing intensive business training with professional equipment, refugees and locals are moving away from aid - dependency. They aren't just recipients; they are business owners, providers, and pillars of their community.

Every garment held up by our participants is a step towards total self-reliance. Our study shows that since the training, income has increased and is being tracked, personal funds are being separated from business funds, savings are growing, there is less dependence on external support and they are now able to access external markets.

We provided the training and the tools, they provided the talent and the drive.

"Small steps, big impact. 🧵✨

Listen to how our beneficiary has leveled up her business! It’s one thing to have a sewing machine; it’s another to have the business mindset to make it grow.

Through our entrepreneurship training, she’s mastered:
💰 Money Management: Keeping business and personal funds separate.
🏦 The Power of Savings: Contributing weekly to her chama.
🏠 Family First: Providing for her home through her own hard work.

This is what self-reliance looks like in Nasra! We are so proud of our graduates who are turning stitches into stability!

📽️: Captured on the field during our post-evaluation study.

Eid Mubarak 🌙
For many in our community, Eid is more than a celebration, it is a reminder of resilience, faith, and the strength to keep going despite challenges.
At Youth Voices Community, we honor every story, every journey, and every dream still being built.
May this Eid bring comfort where it’s needed, joy where it’s been missing, and hope for what’s ahead. 🤍

Women from refugee and host communities came together on 7th March at Calvary Grounds in Komarock to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme:

“Give to Gain – Investing in Women, Benefiting Everyone.”

Co-organized with Family Bridge of Hope, the celebration created a powerful space for women’s voices, leadership, and community connection.

Through speeches, testimonies, performances, and networking moments, women shared their journeys as leaders, entrepreneurs, and changemakers — reminding us that when women are supported, entire communities grow stronger.

As a refugee-led organization, Youth Voices Community was proud to mobilize refugee women and young women to participate, connect, and showcase their work.

Because investing in women isn’t just the right thing to do , it benefits everyone.

The Voices of Kakuma stakeholders , loud and clear🔊

We’re bringing the community’s reality to the decision-making table.
as the Kenya implementing parner under the Local Leadership East African Return and Reintegration Network convened and facilitateee - LLEARN Kenya Participatory Forum 1, right here in Municipality.

We didn't just host a meeting; we created a safe space for dialogue where key stakeholders including refugee leaders, Refugee Led Organisation, host community members, CSO, and Municipal Authorities , and county government officials had to have the "hard conversations" about inclusive programs and policies affecting reintegration pathways self-reliance and inclusion.

In this video, you’ll see the highlights of our dialogue:

Beyond Labels: Why assistance must match present needs, not past status.

What matters : Discussion and prioritization key enty points and issues affecting inclusion in policies and program implementation.

Closing the Gap: Moving from "hearing" about policies like the SHIRIKA Plan to actually understanding them.

The "Parking Lot": Watch how we used this tool to get direct answers from decision-makers for the first time. 📝🤝

As one participant put it: “The strong become stronger, and the weak become weaker.” We are here to make sure that doesn't happen.

🎥 Watch until the end to see the energy and insights from the day!

LLEARN is funded by the European Union and contracted by via the MMD Grant Facility.
