🇰🇪 Happy Jamhuri Day! | December 12, 2025

62 Years of Freedom. 62 Years of Progress. 62 Years of Hope.

On December 12, 1963, Kenya gained independence from British colonial rule. One year later, on this same date in 1964, Kenya became a republic—a sovereign nation charting its own destiny.

Today, as we celebrate Jamhuri Day (Republic Day), we honor the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and reflect on the progress we've made as a nation.

At the African Institute for Children Studies (AICS), we believe that true independence means ensuring every Kenyan child has the opportunity to thrive—access to quality education, healthcare, protection, and the chance to reach their full potential.

The freedom our forefathers fought for must translate into: ✨ Safe communities where children are protected ✨ Quality education that empowers the next generation ✨ Healthcare that gives every child a healthy start ✨ Opportunities that aren't limited by circumstance

Kenya's greatest resource isn't found in the ground—it's in the hearts and minds of our children. Their success is the truest measure of our independence.

This Jamhuri Day, let's recommit to building a Kenya where every child can flourish—because their future IS our nation's future.

Hongera Kenya! 🇰🇪 Happy Jamhuri Day to all Kenyans and friends of Kenya worldwide!

🇮🇳

We are participating in the Validation Meeting for the Civil Society Organizations’ Complementary Report to Kenya’s 4th Periodic Report to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC).

This important session brings together child-rights organizations from across the country to interrogate the already drafted CSOs’ parallel report, strengthen its recommendations, and ensure that the issues affecting children in Kenya are accurately and powerfully captured.
It is a valuable moment for collective reflection, accountability, and alignment as we prepare to present Kenya’s civil society perspective to the ACERWC.

A special thank you to E-Network, and all supporting partners including Mtoto News, for consistently ensuring that children’s voices are represented, connected, and included in every step of this process.
Your dedication continues to remind us that children must be at the centre of national reporting and policy engagement.

We are proud that the African Institute for Children Studies (AICS), as a premier child-focused think tank, is the founding institution behind the International Conference on Child Protection (ICCP).

Our mission has always been clear — to shape the child-wellbeing agenda in Africa and champion evidence-driven investment in children’s futures. Today, we continue to lead that vision.

The 3rd International Conference on Child Protection (ICCP 2025) officially kicked off this morning at the Kenya School of Government. Over the next three days, policymakers, child protection experts, government leaders, researchers, and frontline practitioners from across Africa and beyond will be joining us in advancing solutions that safeguard and empower our children.

Follow the conversations, stay inspired, and be part of this movement for a safer, more just and nurturing world for every child.

⚠️ Did you know?
Su***de among US youth is rising at an alarming rate.

For every 10 young people (10–24 yrs), 1 thinks seriously about su***de.

Among high school girls, 3 in 10 have considered su***de; among boys, it’s 1 in 7.

Su***de is now the 3rd leading cause of death for teens.

🛑 This is a crisis we can’t ignore.
