The Great Run

The Great Run The Purity Of Purpose The Great Run is a mid to long distance driving event for any form of motorized transport.

It is a chance for both driver and vehicle to cover hundreds of kilometers and take in some of the best roads in the country in the company of like-minded individuals. However, much as it is organized as such, the Great Run is not a form of motorsport nor is it competitive. This is to ensure the highest standard of safety and obeisance of traffic regulations are observed, as the Great Run will be conducted on public roads.

Welcome to The Great Run XXV: BONGO DRUMS
Bungo Bango Bingo, we are headed over to Bongo!
As the name suggests, Tanzania is our next port of call.

EVENT: The Great Run XXV - BONGO DRUMS
DATE: June 26th - 30th 2025

This is a rather long trip, easily our longest yet. It stretches out to a hair under 2200km in total, spread out over 5 days

Day 1 (274km): Ngong - Kiserian - Isinya - Namanga - Arusha
Day 2 (421km): Arusha - Dodoma
Day 3 (457km): Dodoma - Morogoro - Dar Es Salaam
Day 4 (487km): Dar Es Salaam - Tanga - Diani
Day 5 (513km): Diani - Mazeras - Voi - Makindu - Nairobi

This is just the introductory update. More details in further updates will be given to registered participants as we draw closer to the date of departure. Registration is via:

Untold Stories.

A while back, an avid Runner Andrew and a friend held a parallel event while in Lusaka, Zambia. It was Great Run XX (the Western Expedition) marking 10 years of mastery.
Here's what we got from Andrew's travel journal.

Day I
Lusaka – Chiawa – Chirundu - Siavonga

-We drove along Zambezi river to Chirundu ( Zimbabwe /Zambia Border)
-Chirundu to Siavonga ( 87Kms) all tarmac
-Visit the World Largest man-made dam (Kariba Dam).
-Crossed over to Zimbabwe via the dam Channel
-Great sunset views from the dam!!

Day II
Siavonga – Siamwinga – Mukonga – Chisekesi (Joins Tarmac) down to Livingstone !!

-Early morning fantastic Sunrise views as one drives from Siavonga down to Kafwudulu.
-Nice Grassland views and some hilly terrains.
-Then Tarmac from Chisekesi all the way to Livingstone, VICTORIA FALLS.

Day III
At living stone.

-Visit Victoria falls from Zambia side.
-Victoria fall bridge.
- We met heards of elephants crossing along musi oa tunya National park

Day IV
-Livingstone up to Lusaka
-Long drive and a nice road
** Kafue River ..
