Bringing clean water closer home! We are excited to share that drilling works for the Nyaburu Charo community borehole in Seme are officially underway! This is part of our life-changing SI-WASH project which is aimed at ensuring lasting water security for underserved communities.
The drilling works were officially commissioned by the Kisumu County CEC for Water, Environment, Climate Change, and Natural Resources, Ms. Judith Oluoch.
Our sincere gratitude to our partner Water1st International for their incredible support in making this vital infrastructure a reality. Together, we are transforming lives through safe, accessible water!

This , we are reflecting on the powerful theme: "Inspired by nature, for climate, for our future."
At KWAHO, we believe that sustainable water service delivery begins at the source. For decades, we have partnered with communities across Kenya to implement nature-inspired, climate-resilient water and sanitation solutions. From protecting vital water catchments to championing sustainable sanitation like SAFI Toilets, our work is a testament to how safeguarding our environment directly secures our health and our future.

Our artisans are currently undertaking a hands-on training session focused on SAFI products and DQ sales. The team is getting into the practical side of things, mastering the art of making, packaging, and selling safi products from scratch, in readiness for the SI - WASH project in Nyaburu Charo.
Better sanitation starts and is sustained with local expertise.

Three days of intensive collaboration, planning, and empowerment!
With support from the Sub County water officer and social services Kisumu County, we have just wrapped up a Participatory Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPME) training with the Nyaburu Charo WASH committee. At the heart of sustainable water management is the shift from being "beneficiaries" to being "managers."
By mastering PPME tools, this committee is now equipped to track progress using community-led indicators, ensure transparency in resource management and build climate resilience through proactive planning.
Sustainable WASH is about the people who manage it. When communities own the process, the impact lasts a lifetime.

Inclusion in action!
We spent an incredible day at Nyaburu Charo for water committee elections. It wasn't just about picking leaders; it was about making sure everyone has a seat at the table.
With the support of the Sub-County Water Officer, Social Services, the Ward Admin, and our local Chief, we ensured the new committee is fully representative of the people it serves.
Our "Inclusion Checklist" for the day:
✅ Gender balance
✅ Youth representation
✅ Inclusion of PLWDs
✅ Faith-based leaders
✅ Full catchment area coverage

When the community leads, the impact lasts.

Happy International Women’s Day 2026!
The 2026 theme "Give to Gain" emphasizes the power of reciprocity and collective action. At KWAHO, we’re proud to showcase how this mindset transforms lives through our SI-WASH programme.
In the Magwako and Nyatigo communities, women are leading the way—literally. By taking charge of digging trenches for water pipe installation, they are contributing their time and strength to ensure their families have direct access to clean water 24/7.
Supported by Water1st International, this project highlights that sustainable development happens when women are empowered to lead.

Today marks a historic moment as we celebrate the official Launch of the National Sanitation Management Policy.
At KWAHO, we are incredibly proud to have been part of the technical process and dedicated teamwork that brought this policy to life. This framework isn't just a document; it’s a roadmap towards safely managed managed sanitation for all by 2030 and beyond. Clean water and proper sanitation are human rights, and this policy is a giant leap toward making that a reality for every community we serve.
A huge congratulations to the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and all partners involved in this achievement!
