NAIVASHA – KENYA, 28 MAY 2026 (ACCOSCA) - On behalf of the Board and Management of ACCOSCA and the ACDF, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, students, staff, and the entire Utumishi Girls Academy community following the devastating fire tragedy in Kenya.

This heartbreaking incident has caused immense pain and sorrow, not only to the affected families but also to the wider cooperative fraternity across Africa that fondly remembers Utumishi Girls Academy for hosting delegates during the 2024 SACCA Congress.

The school has continued to benefit from the goodwill and sustained support of credit unions in the region, notably the Kenya National Police DT SACCO, whose partnership and support has played a significant role in advancing the institution’s development and welfare.

Utumishi Girls became part of a shared legacy of hope and sustainability through the planting of over 10,000 trees alongside members of the African cooperative movement during the 2024 SACCA Congress.

Today, we mourn the loss of young, bright, and promising lives whose futures were tragically cut short. During this difficult moment, we stand in solidarity with all those affected and convey our sincere sympathies to every family carrying the weight of this profound loss.

May the memories of the departed continue to inspire strength and unity, and may comfort, healing, and peace be granted to all grieving families. || www.accosca.org || State Department of Cooperatives || Kenya National Police DT SACCO || Utumishi Girls Academy

ACCOSCA ACADEMY – KENYA, 28 MAY 2026 (ACCOSCA) – ACCOSCA and the ACDF joins the global credit union community in honoring and celebrating the life of Kathy Chartier (ADE, I-CUDE), President & CEO of Members Credit Union - CT, USA.

Kathy’s exemplary leadership affirmed that credit unions (SACCOs) know no boundaries - they are a truly inclusive, people-centered movement.

Her passion for development was deeply felt across Africa, where she mentored numerous Development Educators (ADE) Programs and inspired a new generation of leaders. As she once said, “The Development Educators Program changes lives in multiple ways.” She lived these words, leaving a lasting imprint on all she touched.

Through her dedication to initiatives such as America Friends for Kenya, supporting the building of libraries, Kathy demonstrated a life committed to service, learning, and global solidarity.

On behalf of the Board and Management of ACCOSCA and the ACDF, we salute and celebrate a life profoundly well lived. Her legacy will continue to inspire us to lead with purpose, serve with compassion, and transform the world. || www.accosca.org || Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions || World Council of Credit Unions || Members Credit Union - CT || KUSCCO Ltd || Botswana Savings and Credit Cooperative Association || Sccult 1992 Ltd || Mauritius Co-operative Savings and Credit League Ltd || Malawi Union Of Savings and Credit Cooperatives || Eswatini Association Of Savings & Credit Co-Operatives || NASCU - National Association of Savings and Credit Unions || CamCCUL LTD || Ghana Cooperative Credit Unions Association || Liberia Credit Union National Association || National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions of The Gambia || National Cooperative Credit Union Association- Sierra Leone -naccua || Lesotho Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies League
