๐ŸŒณ Trees & Food Security ๐ŸŒพ
Trees do much more than provide shade, they play an important role in supporting food production and healthier ecosystems.

They help improve soil fertility, retain moisture in the ground, reduce erosion, protect crops from harsh winds, and support pollinators essential for agriculture. Fruit trees and agroforestry systems also provide food, fodder, income, and climate resilience for many communities.

As climate change continues to affect farming and food systems, integrating trees into landscapes is becoming increasingly important for sustainable food security and environmental restoration. ๐ŸŒ

The tide, the mangroves, and a community committed to restoration.

This week, under the Landscape Repair and Transformation (LANSRET) Program, the Hearts of green organization, Wangari Maathai Institute together with Coast Development Authority and the local community, carried out mangrove growing activities at Bonje Creek. We also took time to revisit the mangroves planted last year, and the transformation on site was encouraging to see. ๐ŸŒฑ

What stood out most was the role of the local community, whose continued care and stewardship have helped the mangroves establish and thrive over time.

Restoration becomes more powerful when communities grow alongside the landscapes they protect.

The conversation is shifting from simply planting trees to restoring entire landscapes and empowering communities to take climate action.

Through the LANSRET Project, Hearts of Green Organization and the Wangari Maathai Institute continue advancing landscape repair and transformation for a more sustainable future. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿƒ

๐ŸŒฟ A visit to the VIVA 365 Insurance Brokers Adopt-a-Site at the Wangari Maathai Institute shows encouraging progress in landscape restoration. The trees planted at the site are growing well, with many now established and reaching impressive heights. ๐ŸŒฑ

The site is also becoming a peaceful green space where visitors can sit, relax, and enjoy nature through the benches placed within the area. ๐Ÿƒ

Tree growing restores both landscapes and peopleโ€™s connection with nature.

It's great to see the restoration work being monitored and documented through the TSNAP system. ๐ŸŒฑ
Each field visit and verified record brings us closer to greener landscapes.

๐ŸŒฟ Restoration is a process, and every field visit matters.
Throughout April, the SEKU site recorded 35 field sessions focused on bush clearing, tree monitoring, and documenting landscape progress.
Using the TSNAP monitoring system, field activities, including GPS verification and photo documentation, helped track restoration progress on the ground. ๐ŸŒฑ

Every visit contributes to healthier ecosystems and stronger restoration outcomes.
