Africa's Voices Foundation

Africa's Voices Foundation We amplify Africa's voices by listening intelligently to citizens' views via radio, SMS and social media technologies. Twitter:

Africa’s Voices is a non-profit research organisation spun out of the University of Cambridge. We leverage new opportunities of the digital revolution to converse with and listen to African citizens. In interactive, local language media forums we spark inclusive discussions and invite audience opinions via new technologies, including SMS and social media. We analyse this digital, citizen-generated data using multi-disciplinary techniques. Our rich insights into the shifting attitudes and beliefs in society support organisations to understand, better engage with and appropriately serve target populations.

Invest in Peace — For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.

On this International Day of Peace, our Executive Director Samuel Kimeu reflects on the importance of investing in peace as a shared responsibility — one that begins with listening, inclusion and creating spaces where every voice can be heard.

At Africa’s Voices Foundation, we believe meaningful peace is strengthened when communities are listened to, their experiences are valued, and they have a meaningful role in shaping the decisions that affect their lives.

Let’s invest in peace, not only today, but for everyone, everywhere, every day.

Peace is not only built in moments of crisis, it is shaped every day by how we listen, speak and act with one another.

Each of us has a role in creating safer, more peaceful communities: through respectful conversations, thoughtful actions and a willingness to understand perspectives different from our own.

At Africa’s Voices Foundation, we believe that when people are heard, communities are better equipped to prevent conflict and build solutions together.

What does your role in peace look like today?

🎉Welcoming the 2026 Youth Civic Leadership Cohort🎉

Africa’s Voices Foundation is pleased to welcome the 2026 cohort of the Youth Civic Leadership Pathway, delivered in partnership with City University of Mogadishu.

The nine-month programme gives young people a platform to build confidence, strengthen their civic leadership skills, amplify their voices, and engage more meaningfully with the issues affecting their communities.

This new cohort represents an important milestone in our ongoing partnership with City University of Mogadishu, as we move from partnership commitments to practical opportunities for youth engagement, community-centred research and evidence-informed action.

We look forward to accompanying this group throughout their journey and to hearing the ideas, perspectives, and solutions they bring forward.

Our 2025 is out!

In 2025, we engaged 15,558 participants and analysed 55,265 relevant SMS across Kenya and Somalia. Through this work, we generated people-led evidence, amplified diverse perspectives, and helped ensure that community insights reach wider audiences and contribute to meaningful change beyond traditional policy spaces.

Africa’s Voices Foundation, led by Civic and Engagement expert Ali Ibrahim, met with Kismayo University Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Abshir A. Mohamud, for a constructive engagement on opportunities to strengthen collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community-centred approaches to higher education and development in Jubaland.

At Athi River GK Primary School, we returned to the community to share and validate the findings from our Community Listening Pilot under the Regenerative School Meals (RSM) programme.

The conversation went beyond presenting findings. Parents and teachers recognised the challenges identified through the listening exercise and, importantly, put forward recommendations and commitments to help make the school meals programme more sustainable and community-owned.

Teachers committed to staying actively involved in supporting the programme, while parents expressed a willingness to support vulnerable families who may struggle to contribute the KES 15 daily meal fee.

This is what meaningful community listening can lead to: not just hearing people’s experiences, but creating space for communities to shape solutions and take collective ownership of them.
