How can community voices help strengthen school meals programmes?

As part of the Regenerative School Meals (RSM) Community Listening Pilot at Athi River GK Primary School, Africa’s Voices Foundation engaged parents, teachers, and learners to better understand the factors shaping participation in the school meals programme.

Through these conversations, we explored how communication, trust, meal experiences, and community engagement influence parent participation and ownership. The insights gathered will inform the next phase of the pilot, helping to design more responsive, community-centred approaches that strengthen communication, build trust, and support sustainable school meals.

Because the best solutions start by listening to the people they are designed to serve.

Building partnerships for peaceful and inclusive elections in Kenya.

Africa's Voices Foundation (AVF) today met with the leadership and technical team of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), led by Vice Chairperson Irene Chepeto Tulel, to explore strategic collaboration in advancing national cohesion and supporting peaceful elections.

The meeting introduced AVF's evidence-driven community listening approach and identified key areas for partnership, including social listening, early warning systems, community dialogue, national cohesion monitoring, and policy support.

Recognising the importance of collaboration ahead of the electoral period, NCIC's Vice Chairperson proposed that AVF and NCIC jointly develop a roadmap for peaceful elections, leveraging citizen insights and institutional expertise to strengthen conflict prevention and informed decision-making.

To operationalise this partnership, representatives from both AVF and NCIC were appointed to a joint technical team that will develop the collaboration framework and drive implementation of the agreed priorities. Together, AVF and National Cohesion and Integration Commission are committed to amplifying citizens' voices, strengthening social cohesion, and supporting evidence-informed approaches to peacebuilding and democratic resilience across Kenya.

Africa's Voices Foundation was pleased to welcome Prof. Afyare A. Elmi, Research Director at the City University of Mogadishu, for discussions on operationalising our Memorandum of Understanding and reviewing progress in establishing the Youth Cohort initiative.

Together, we agreed that the City University of Mogadishu provides an ideal platform for advancing this initiative and strengthening meaningful youth engagement through community-centred research and evidence-based action.

We were pleased to welcome Hon. Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed, Minister of Planning, Investment & International Cooperation, Jubaland State, and his delegation to the Africa's Voices Foundation offices for a productive engagement with our Executive Director, Samuel Kimeu, and team.

Building on our continued collaboration, the discussions focused on the value of citizen voices in informing planning, strengthening climate resilience and preparedness, and supporting evidence-based decision-making that responds to the needs and priorities of communities across Jubaland.

Together, we remain committed to ensuring that communities are heard and that their voices help shape more inclusive and responsive development.
