Today we celebrate the strength, compassion, and leadership of women who continue to uplift our communities every day.

Across Kenya, women are often the first to respond in times of hardship—supporting families, organizing communities, and restoring hope when challenges arise. In moments like these, especially as many recover from recent floods, their courage and resilience remind us what service above self truly looks like.

At Rotary Club of Karura, we honor the women who lead with empathy, act with purpose, and turn compassion into meaningful action.

Happy International Women’s Day 2026 to the women building stronger communities today and inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.

💧 SOKONI WATER PROJECT – HOMABAY COUNTY 💧

Clean water is not a luxury. It is dignity. It is health. It is opportunity.

This past week, we have celebrated the impact of the Sokoni Water Project in Homa Bay County — a project that has touched hundreds of lives in Sokoni area by providing safe and reliable access to clean water.

Before this project, many women walked long distances in search of water. Now, children spend more time in school, families are healthier - with a new baby to show for it, and locals are spending more time on economic activities.

This is what service looks like.
This is what partnership makes possible.
This is Rotary in action.

Thank you to every Rotarian, our partners in RC Peachtree City and Sokoni Women’s Development Initiative, and every supporter who made this a reality. Together, we are not just providing water — we are restoring hope and building a stronger community. 💙

Yesterday, the Board of the Rotary Club of Karura had a productive meeting with District Governor Wairimu Njage and her district team. We shared updates on our club’s financial health, project milestones, and strategic direction — all of which were very well received!

DG Wairimu left us with one powerful message: Go Big, Go Bold.

The district team supported our initiatives focused on:
🔹 Membership: Expanding our club significantly this year.
🔹 Fundraising: Targeting 5 new Paul Harris Fellows and raising our per capita giving.
🔹 Impact: Continuing to drive change through our WASH projects in Nditime and Sokoni (Gwassi).

🌱 Stay tuned as we prepare to launch more transformative projects in the environmental sector.
Interested in partnering or joining us? Send us a DM — we’d love to connect!

A heartfelt thank you to RC Karura members, DG Wairimu Njage and her team, and all our sponsors and supporters for walking this journey with us. Together, we keep serving!

August is Membership Month, and RC Karura was excited to host AG George Oyeho for an inspiring Meet & Greet session!
Rotarians and their guests had the chance to learn more about Rotary’s mission, projects, and how we approach sustainability in community service. The journey begins at club level - with every member engaged - and grows stronger through dedicated champions who run with projects on behalf of the club.
We reflected on how social transformation is interconnected across these key areas:
📚 Education
❤️ Health
🌾 Agriculture
💧 Water
🌱 Environment
🏗️ Infrastructure
The message was clear: Service Above Self is about looking at your community and asking, “How can I help improve and transform it?” Change starts with the right attitude - don’t wait for challenges to be pointed out. Be proactive, be accountable, and be the difference.
👏 A big thank you to AG George for reminding us why we serve, President Nelson Mudibo of RC Nairobi North for making time to be with us, and to all the Rotarians and guests who made it!
