FROM DIALOGUE TO ACTION: HOLDING DUTY BEARERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP IN THARAKA NITHI
Yesterday, we moved from conversation to commitment.
Following the intergenerational dialogues on women’s leadership in Tharaka Nithi County, we brought together key duty bearers and stakeholders for a Feedback, Commitment and Accountability Meeting to reflect on the barriers women continue to face in leadership and, more importantly, identify what can be done to change the situation.
The meeting brought together representatives from the National Government (DCC Chuka North), County Government, NGAAF, CSOs, UDA, IEBC, County Assembly, Women MCA, youth, and cultural leaders from Nchuri Ncheke.
The message was clear: women's leadership is not a favour—it is a constitutional right and a shared responsibility.
We did not stop at identifying challenges. We developed a Commitment Matrix assigning specific actions and responsibilities to different duty bearers. This gives us something concrete to follow up on and, importantly, a basis for asking: Who committed to what, by when, and what progress has been made?
The journey towards meaningful representation of women in leadership requires more than policies and promises. It requires political will, institutional action, cultural transformation and citizens who are willing to demand accountability.
Yesterday was not the end of the conversation. It was the beginning of tracking the commitments.
From dialogue → to commitments → to action → to accountability.
